Is this typical behavior for a 6 month old?
any time any of our friends go to hold DD she starts to cry, and I mean to the point of tears. She will typically stop as soon as DH or myself take her back. But is this age appropriate. I thought separation anxiety happened at a much later age. She is not with me all week long - she is actually watched by both of our families during the week and she is completely fine with all of them it is just with people she does not see very often.

TOTALLY NORMAL! Its about the age for sep. anx. to start, or can start. It sounds like that is totally what it is. Shes old enough now to recognize mommy and daddy, from strangers or not immediate care givers. TOTALLY NORMAL!

I was thinking that separation anxiety starts around 7 months - so it sounds like she's right on target!

My DD does the SAME EXACT thing. She turned 6m yesterday. we were at my parents house and if anyone else other than DH of I even looked at her she would start crying. I was starting to get upset...she wouldnt even let my mom hold her. How long does this last? lol

Yes! DS started with separation anxiety around the same age. Now at 11 months, it is pretty much gone, just limited to a very few people.

oh man we are going through this as well. i find that the more people are in her face, the more upset she gets. if shes passed around with no one making a big deal about it or anyone in her face, she can be fine. she just hangs out and looks around. the second someone tries to say hi to her with their face close, she freaks.

Re: Is this typical behavior for a 6 month old?
Sounds like my DS (he is 6 months) except not even DH can stop him from crying. He only wants me.
I feel bad because he loses it when my MIL or anyone in DH family goes near him. He doesn't do it at all with my side. He doesn't see either side much. It's so weird.

Yup, normal. My DD is 6 months old and sooo calm & sweet most of the time, but has randomly cried when people she doesn't know well want to hold her.

Re: Is this typical behavior for a 6 month old?
DS turned 6 months on Christmas and this is EXACTLY what is going on with him! My back was killing me after we got home from all the Christmas festivities because he only wanted me. My mom got all tramatized that she couldn't console him, he doesn't calm down with DH half the time either, just me. It makes me feel the love, but at the same time I feel bad that he won't go with anyone and I could use a break every now and again!
