Is your child a "people person?"
When we were at the surgery place for Ronan's surgery Ronan basically freaked out from the time we went into pre-op. My husband said to one of the Dr's, he's not really a people person. And I realized when he said that that its true!
If we go to stores-people always talk to us. Ronan usually cries while Declan smiles away and laughs. If we are holding Ronan and someone talks to him he will lean his head against our shoulders. The only people he really will go to are me, my DH, my sister my SIL and my MIL.
I took them to a trial at Little Gym today and while he was interested in interacting with the other kids, if any of the Mom's talked to him he burst into tears and came to me to hold him. So how about you? If you have two children are they different?

Re: Is your child a "people person?"
My DS started out the way you describe...It took a whole lot to get a smile out of him unless he knew you ( then he was a total goof-ball )... He had what I would call "an attitude"..
Then he suddenly took a complete 180...Not shy at all any longer, will talk to anyone but he still can turn on "the attitude" on a whim ...
DD is starting off exactly the same way..Buries her head in my shoulder, will give a shy grin and look away type of thing...
From what I was told, I was very shy as a child, it is VERY much the opposite now

Re: Is your child a "people person?"
I would say my (almost 4 yr old) son would be called a "people person" if you saw him with adults-- he is always chatting everyone up, and can sound kind of precocious sometimes. With his peers though, he's more introverted and unsure of himself... it's strange.
My DD (almost 1 yr old) is a very smiley, "flirty", engaging baby.... moreso than her big bro was at that age. I think she is going to be a people person overall.

Re: Is your child a "people person?"
DD is not. She is painfully shy and has a hard time with new people & situations.
DS is the complete opposite. He will talk to anyone, is up to do anything.

Re: Is your child a "people person?"
He's shy, but once he is around someone for a bit (maybe 15 minutes) he usually warms up to them. He is clingy in the beginning of a new situation, but he doesn't really freak out unless we are at the ped. Maybe it's the white coats
When we are out shopping he is a TOTAL people person, waves at everyone and says hi and bye and smiles at them. But if they approach him, forget it, he hides his face

Re: Is your child a "people person?"
COMPLETELY different. It's night and day with my girls, and I can already tell even though Yael is only 6 months old.
Alex is SUCH a people person - she thrives on social interaction and her energy feeds off of these social interactions. She's one of the most popular kids in her class, and school generally. Everyone knows her by name, all the teachers at the school, administrators and most of the parents, because of her outgoing personality. She will go up to complete strangers and chat them up. She LOVES any kind of appointment because it means all the attention is on her! This kid is a magnet to the spotlight.
Yael, on the other hand. She's my sensitive, gentle little soul. She's a total Mommy/Daddy girl - won't let many other people hold her. She's curious, but likes to watch things from a distance. She rarely, rarely smiles at strangers.
I told her teachers at the infant center that she has a very sensitive, shy disposition. When I went to pick her up yesterday one of the teachers told me she didn't believe me until she started noticing over the past few days that, anytime the older babies are out and playing, Yael stiffens up, gets scared and stops playing and exploring. And forget about if another baby starts crying - sensitive little Yael sobs hysterically if she hears another child crying!

Re: Is your child a "people person?"
Nope, DD isn't really a "people person" with strangers. She has no interest/desire to interact with them usually I wouldn't say she's "shy" but more "selective" about who she talks to....she likes to be in charge after all

Re: Is your child a "people person?"
No, my son is not a people person at all and sounds just like your son. He likes other children but HATES when other adults try to speak to him and will frequently burst into tears over it too. My mom swears when he starts nursery school it will get better and I hope she's right!

Re: Is your child a "people person?"
DD is a complete people person - almost too much so. She takes to everyone immendiately and is affectionate with everyone (this part scares me ). She is a big talker (like her mommy)!
DS is still very young but heis very social and smiley so far!

Re: Is your child a "people person?"
Shaylie is definately a people person. Anytime we go out and someone gives her 1 bit of attention, she eats it up. There were a few instances when some did talk to her, she would start crying. For some reason, when my BIL talks to her or tries to hold her she starts crying.
Also, when we go to my IL's house, she starts crying and wants me. I think that because everyone is coming at her all at once and doesn't give her a chance to settle down and get used to her surroundings.

Re: Is your child a "people person?"
M is a total people person. She smiles at everyone and it very outgoing. J is a little more reserved, but I wouldn't say he's not a people person. He will smile at people when we are out and loves to flirt with the ladies, lol. But he is the one that will cry while the dr. is examining him while M is trying to grab the stethoscope and looking at everything with curiosity.
But with this comes other personality differences - J is a lot more laid back. He will sit still and cuddle and observe what is going around him while M has to constantly be going. She has two moods - either bubbly happy or temper tantrum. She does not cuddle, ever, unless she is half asleep.

Re: Is your child a "people person?"
DD is a social butterfly and any time someone talks to her she "talks" back, BUT she will not let ANYONE else hold her if I'm in her line of sight...so it's look but don't touch with her...

Re: Is your child a "people person?"
totally depends on the people.
he is so hot or cold. either up your rear chatting or completely ignoring.
he loves old people. like really loves them.
if the cashier at grocery store is old, he is helping them, talking, wants to swipe card...if young, he won't even say hi.

Re: Is your child a "people person?"
DD is quite the social butterfly. She will walk up to any child and just start talking to them even if they ignore her. Adults she is usually the same way but occasonally she'll be in a mood and ignore them or pretend she is shy.

Re: Is your child a "people person?"
Sadly No. Well not always. If he is with me, he will just stare at people. If people try and talk to him in a store, he is BLANK. He will look at me like "is she kidding me?" But then there are days where he is almost ok. He is moody. Maybe that is a better answer.

Re: Is your child a "people person?"
DS says "HI" to everyone, even the Target cashiers! He's very outgoing, sometimes, to outgoing.
DD is just about 9 months old. She will go to other people but always looks around the room for me or DH. I guess she just needs that comfort to know that one of us is near bye.

Re: Is your child a "people person?"
I'd say Sophia is a definite "people" baby. She will let anyone and everyone hold her!!! She's a HUGE flirt too
She still does have some issues with getting scared bc of loud noises/places, so if that happens she'll look for me (or settle for DH )

DS is still quite young but he is a definite people person. He always has a smile for strangers, doesn't mind being held by others... in fact, sometimes I think he is bored when it's just me around

Re: Is your child a "people person?"
My DD is a TOTAL people person. She smiles at anyone and everyone. She lets anyone hold her. She is the complete opposite of my DH and I. We are both more reserved and quiet. She seems like she will be a social butterfly! I am happy she seems to be this way because I hate being shy.
