IVF - freezing 'just in case' sperm?
Does everyone do this?
If you go through the process and freeze a sample to have a 'spare' supply, do they automatically thaw it in case you need it, or does it remain frozen until you need to use it?
Like I mentioned the other day, this apparently costs $850 at my clinic, and I wonder if we really need this. My DH has never had a problem producing a sample, and since his count is low we would much rather use fresh on the day of the ER.
If anyone knows anything about this please let me know!
TIA!!!!!

We did this at my RE's suggestion. He said to look at it as an insurance policy that there will be sperm the day of retrieval. He told us he had seen too many times the DH getting "stage fright" and not being able to produce anything.

Thanks for the info! Do you know whether it is automatically thawed, or only thawed in case you need to use it?

They thawed it only if it was needed.
We never needed it, so we disposed of what was thawed so not to get hit with a storage fee.
