Ivf consult today... I am so mad!
Today I saw Dr. Brenner for my second opinion and I loved him !! He recommended IVF also. I was really happy because things will hopefully happen now. I've had two unsuccessful iui's (in 2ww for third). I was assigned a nurse, got scripts for water Sono and biopsy.
Then I saw the billing lady who informed me that with GHI I need six iui's before Ivf.
What???????????
Brenner said he will write a letter and attach supporting documents and it might work for GHI to approve it. The billing lady said it won't work. The nurse said to listen to the doctor.
Brenner also said I have a 6 percent or less chance of iui working.
So now I have to waste my time??!!!
Anyone with NYC doe GHI plans that have experience with this? I am so upset!!

Ivf consult today... I am so mad!
Congrats on your bfp! I really liked brenner and Jackie. I'm happy I am switching but feel so deflated I still have to wait!

I used to go to LIIVF - Dr. Brenner (LOVED Jackie). He contacted my insurance (who also required IUIs first) and I was approved to go straight to IVF. It all depends on your Dx. Don't stress...things will happen as they are meant to (says someone two years into IF and finally realizing the truth of that statement). GL!!!

It depends on your diagnosis. GHI will decide if you can bypass the 6 IUI's. I am surprised they did not tell you that before your consult.

Thanks! Did you also have GHI? Good luck to you as well! IF is torture
I don't have GHI, but from what I've seen (I've personally had two diff insurance companies during my journey), it's normal (albeit a challenge sometimes) to bypass IUI if the diagnosis calls for it and the doctor sends proper documentation.

YUP. I am a NYC DOE teacher and I'm on IUI #6. IVF in the fall. Since we are unexplained there is nothing to document so we had to do 6 IUIS. My RE says GHI is behind the times.

nyc doe= we bypassed the 6 iuis. i think we did 4. i dont know what your issues were, but my doctor's reasoning in the letter was that i respond really well to the meds and i was at risk for high order multiples (which the ins company DOESNT want to pay for, since that is usually more expensive than ivf).

Thanks ladies, that gives me hope. I'm classified as ovulatory disfunction and Dh has slight mf. I'm really hoping I can call it quits after 3 iui's. so ridiculous!

I have GHI and my RE said there are strict guidelines to bypass the 6IUI's.. even with the Dr's letter. They need clinical proof.
Most important-
*Stage 4 endometriosis
OR
*Both tubes blocked
OR
*Two consecutive SA with 2% or less.
If you fit into either of these, they can pass you through.
My office manager just showed me the GHI paperwork confirming this.

Ridiculous!! I just got off the phone with them and they said 29 is too young to bypass the iui I need to show medical need. The billing lady wasn't optimistic but I guess it depends how the dr writes it up. Ugh!
Best of luck to you! ESP starting a new school year and doing it! I'm not looking forward to that combination lol

Best of luck to you..if it's any consolation, when I got PG with my daughter, I was about to go to IVF, planned the meeting, etc...and...it was my month..keep us posted because this time around, it may end up that way and I have the same insurance..keep your head up and trust Dr. Brenner...

Sorry - i know how frustrating it can be. I have GHI and I could not bypass so we decided to pay oop for ivf. Paying for injectibles adds up so if we had to do that for a few more months of iui it would get very costly -almost cost of ivf cycle.

We are unexplained - still 20 months after my DD was born and about to begin the adventure again- this infuriates me. I wound up doing the attain program - was more $ - but seemed worth it. I luckily conceived my DD on my first fresh cycle at NSUH but had a prior failure when I hyperstimulated with another RE and only could do an FET.

It really is infuriating!! Do you have to start back at iui's before you do Ivf even though you did Ivf to conceive?

We chose not to redo any testing and went straight to ivf. Since GHI wont cover it we felt it was the best decision for us to go straight to what worked for us in the past. I was in denial for 18 months hoping i would get lucky this time but finally came to the realization that it wasnt happening naturally for us - at least not now.
