YUP. I am a NYC DOE teacher and I'm on IUI #6. IVF in the fall. Since we are unexplained there is nothing to document so we had to do 6 IUIS. My RE says GHI is behind the times.
Ridiculous!! I just got off the phone with them and they said 29 is too young to bypass the iui I need to show medical need. The billing lady wasn't optimistic but I guess it depends how the dr writes it up. Ugh! Best of luck to you! ESP starting a new school year and doing it! I'm not looking forward to that combination lol
Yeah it is stressful. Thanks for the good luck. When RE said he wanted me to do IVF in September I nearly had a heart attack. September is insane in the teaching world. I really wish I didn't have to do this last IUI its a waste of time. Oh well at least we have some type of IVF coverage. Good luck.

We chose not to redo any testing and went straight to ivf. Since GHI wont cover it we felt it was the best decision for us to go straight to what worked for us in the past. I was in denial for 18 months hoping i would get lucky this time but finally came to the realization that it wasnt happening naturally for us - at least not now.
For DC #2 would you have to do 6 IUIs again before you could do IVF? Or since you did IVF for DD #1 would they cover IVF #2? Just wondering for the future. I'm on IUI # 6 and if IVF #1 works and then I want a 2nd DC I can't imagine having to go though 6 IUIs again for another child.

Congrats on your bfp! I really liked brenner and Jackie. I'm happy I am switching but feel so deflated I still have to wait!
I have my DD all b/c of Dr Brenner! Jackie was my nurse and she was amazing and so supportive! listen to the Dr!

I would hope they let you go straight to ivf. We are oop again which sucks but every time I think $ I look at my DD and realize it just doesn't matter. Laying out this kind of $ is just another unfair aspect of infertility.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this ! Insurance companies are so frustrating and infuriating !!!!! I mean, who the hell are you to tell me what I have to do??? Do you know me better than my RE does???? I want to send an F-U letter every time I hear about this! For my ins too, bc they pay for unlimited lifetime IUIs but not IVF. Um hellooooo, you could have just paid for my IVF instead of wasting money paying for my 9 IUIs. The money the would shell out for 6 IUIs...they may as well just pay for the IVF!!! My sister went through the same thing; her ins wanted 6 IUIs first. But, her lining started to thin on the clomid so the RE sent a letter and got the IVF covered instead. I hope your RE can get the ball rolling for you!!!! Best of Luck!!!!!!

Waiting until November/December for my IVF will mean that I will be on maternity leave in September - awful!!! Nothing like coming into a class after they had subs for the first six weeks of school. lol. But that's just a slight inconvenience compared to everything else.Keep me updated!!!

Totally unfair. Good luck this second time around!

Thank you! It's so infuriating. And to get the Dr to try and request it from GHI I need additional files from my old/current? doctor and no one there wants to help me!! I feel like I need to hire an assistant just to help me deal with doctors and insurance!
I've already been on clomid for 6 MONTHS. Isn't that dangerous to be on it for 3 more?!

As a teacher I know what you are talking about in regards to a September leave. I tried for a while to conceive my dd. I wound up delivering the first day of school in September. I was nice not working the entire end of my pregnancy. I was home for 5 months because of summer break. Things will work on with your job maybe u will get an out of classroom position. Trust me as soon as you get your bpp you will not care when you have your baby. Best off luck to u

Re: Ivf consult today... I am so mad!
Thanks Pinkey - you are 100% right. I have a mostly out of class position now (I'm coach, and just teach one literacy section), so I hopefully will have no classes that year. Great point about being off in the last months too. You have def made me less apprehensive about that! Thank you!

Ivf consult today... I am so mad!
The same thing happened to me when I was going through IVF. GHI told me it was originally 4 iui's before I could do IVF then in the middle, they changed it to 12! I was furious! I called them and complained! My dr submitted paperwork to try and get me approved earlier, but it also, got, denied. However, after I did 4 IUI's my dr called them again and I complained to GHI. I then got approved to move on to IVF. I guess after 4 failed iui's, my dr told them it just isn't going to work. It's such a long, frustrating process, but you can usually do one IUI'S each month. Good luck!

Re: Ivf consult today... I am so mad!
i went to LI IVF, saw Dr.Brenner and I also have GHI!
yes you have to meet medical criteria before they will waive the IUI requirement. I have endometriosis and both tubes blocked due to it so i was able to move on to IVF right away.
On my second IVF i got pregnant and i now have 2 beautiful twin girls
good luck with emblem and i hope you love your experience with LI IVF as much as i did!
