IVF Ladies and CVS/Amnio
My RE recommended that I have either CVS or amnio done because my baby was conceived through IVF with ICSI. As far as age goes, I will be 34 in a few days. DH and I were tested for every genetic disorder under the sun by the RE and everything was normal. I don't mind the idea of CVS or amnio for peace of mind but I was wondering what the other IVF ladies are doing?

Re: IVF Ladies and CVS/Amnio
I am IVF/ISCI and also turning 34 next month....My Dr. did not push for either of those and we even decided to skip the AFP (?) and he was fine with that also- He said most abnormalities would show on the sonogram- I have another DC, so maybe thats why ???...I'm curious why he reccomended this ...Good Luck

Apparently my RE recommends amnio/CVS for all of his IVF with ICSI patients as a standard practice since I know of others who have received the same recommendation.

Re: IVF Ladies and CVS/Amnio
I didn't conceive through IVF but if your ultrascreen (12 weeks) and quadscreen (16 weeks) results come back fine, I don't think you need to do CVS/Amnio. JMO.

My doctor (who is probably your doctor too!) recommended the sam thing. I am still on the fence about it. I'm really not sure what to do (I am only 28).

I agree- we actually chose not to do any invasive testing therefore did not do the bloodwork for ultrascreen or quadscreen because of the high rates of false positives. We have had our sonos and decided we would make the choice to do bloodwork if something appeared abnormal. Luckily everything has looked good so far.
I did not do ICSI though. But my Dr's have supported and actually applauded our decisions...

Gotcha ....I was just always under the impression that IVF doesnt increase your chances of any risk any higher than that of naturally conceived babies and the only thing I had remembered reading about ISCI, is that there is a small percentage of male babies that were affected (can't recall how, something reproductive wise I'm thinking) Thats why I was curious that imaybe I didnt do my homework !...Good Luck whichever you decide !!!

Re: IVF Ladies and CVS/Amnio
A friend of mine had IVF and she is 34 and she did not have to go for a CVS/Amnio... In my opinion if you dont have to why would you... I had to go for an amnio and i was 30 at the time b/c they thought somehting was wrong and everything turned out okay thank god but the fact that it could cause a miscarriage - scared me and i was so anxious about it and stressed out also... why put yourself through it if you dont have to. IMO... but you have to do what you feel comfortable with

Re: IVF Ladies and CVS/Amnio
I had IVF/ICSI and my OB told me about the tests and said it was totally up to us.....OUR feeling is that, no matter what, I'm not terminating, and I'd just rather not know....I WAS going back and forth about it though....Very hard decision....

Re: IVF Ladies and CVS/Amnio
I did IVF w/ ICSI and had an abdominal CVS test, but only because of my age (I'm 40) and during the Ultrascreen Nathan wasn't co-operating and they couldn't get a neck measurement. We had no genetic tests come back abnormal before IVF. I only had the CVS as my odds were 1 in 10 for Downs, due to my age and the lack of neck measurement. My OB/GYN did the CVS abdominally as opposed to vaginally as there is a slightly lower risk of miscarriage this way and you get the same results. I had the FISH tests and got the results in a couple of days. Thank goodness everything was OK and we found out very early on that we were expecting a boy.

Re: IVF Ladies and CVS/Amnio
We did IVF/ICSI and the Dr. left it up to us to decide. I think it is a personal choice. For me, we tried so hard to finally become pg that it wasn't worth the risk for amnio. As for the CVS, there are a lot of false positives. So we didn't do that either.
I think for others they do the testing so that they can be prepared if God forbid.
