IVF Weight Gain
So I got on the scale the other day for the first time in months. I was 15 pounds heavier than I thought. I have gone up at least one pants size. All of a sudden I have a stomach. I never had one before. It seems like all of this has occurred over the last few weeks.
Is it possible that it is from all of the meds? I am totally confused. I am not sure if I should be disgusted with myself because I caused the weight gain or if it is a normal result of all of these meds (Lupron, BCP, Prendisone, Gonal F, Menopur, etc.). I am about to have retrieval next week.
Did this happen to you?

I'm already really overweight, but I also gained about 10lbs this past month. For me, it's the prednisone. It makes my appetite insane and it is also one of the listed side effects. I can be full and my brain still screams, MORE! It's awful and I feel like crap. Hormones control so much in our bodies and we screw with them a lot with the injections. Even women who aren't on prednisone gain weight while doing ivf. Anxiety probably plays a part in it, too.
I've been trying to exercise a little bit more, but once you get close to retreival, and after, anything rigorous isn't allowed.
Don't be disgusted with yourself...it's almost the norm to gain weight with a cycle.

I could have written this post myself. I have gained a lot of weight since starting IVF. At first I blamed it on bloating from the hormones but I am also on prednisone and that makes me eat like a horse. I won't even get near the scale for fear I will have a breakdown. I used to be a size 5/6 but yesterday I tried on pants that were an 8/10 and they fit comfortably.

I'm not doing IVF but I am on all the same meds...prednisone, lovenox, ganirelix, follistim and menopur and feel the same way. I have been on prednisone a while now and even tho its a very low dose I feel the effects. I am so not happy with the way I look, but since starting this whole process it has become next to impossible to lose the weight. Its really depressing as if IF isn't depressing enough on its own.

I am so glad that it is not just me. I hate to blame weight gain on anything besides my eating. I feel like I am not taking responsibility for my situation. Do you really think it is the meds?
The whole thing is super depressing.
ETA: I just did a google search and found that not only does prednisone cause weight gain but it redistributes the weight to your stomach. That is exactly what I have happening!!!

Its like the freshman 15, but its the IF 15-20. I was a size 4 when I started now I am a size 6 or 8. I had to buy a whole new wardrobe. I am now off all the meds and I am working out really hard and eating less. I wont be going back on any meds until maybe the fall, so hopefully it will come off. It really sucks, but its for a good cause, so we just have to ignore it for the time being I guess.

I have definitely gained weight throughout the IVF process...I'm up about 10-12 lbs. even when I'm on a break.

in 3 1/2 years I gained 30 lbs with all the fertility drugs I was on.. Steroids really did me in.. I finally got pregnant.. I gained an additional 23 lbs.. So all together 53 lbs.. I am 3 weeks post pardum and lost the pregnancy weight but now the fun begins 30 lbs to lose..

Don't worry, me too and I've actually lost weight since starting the IF journey (haven't done IVF yet, but have been on all the meds). It's really the stress that'll do it to you, on top of the meds, if you let it!

Happened to me too. Right around the time that we were starting my first IVF cycle I quit smoking and had a planned vacation with my friends. I bought all new clothes for our trip to South Beach. This was in February/March. Come June, I was unable to fit in any of the new clothes I had bought. I realized that it really wasnt the quitting smoking that was the issue, it was the IVF cycles that were doing it.

It is definitely from the meds. After 4 years of IF treatments, I was up 30 pounds from my normal weight when I got PG. I will be working hard to lose it when I do have this baby....

The same thing happened to me with the clothes. Bought all new pants in the fall and a few months later I could not fit into any of them.
