This saddens me. Poor Jill. She's the sweetest one of all of them. Im sad she couldn't live her life and make and achieve some goals first. This family is a cult. Anyone thinking they're a Godly, Sweet family please watch their entire series. Most would be severely disturbed if they followed them closely. I don't have time to write it all but:
Side hugs: with members of the opposite sex, INCLUDING parents, the grandma & their own siblings, you must side hug. If you frontal hug your genitals will touch and you will become aroused. If you see jill accidentally almost front hug Derrick at the airport and the family's reaction in the one on one interviews...it's crazy. They're embarrassed and act like she gave him a hand job in the airport and she must never make that mistake again.
No dancing: even very, very small children (I'm talking 18 months), cannot dance or sway spontaneously to music. If you can find a clip of Jana in a thrift shop with one of the kids (under 2), you will see when the kid picks up a music box and sway, she panics and takes it away. She explains to the camera, it's sexual and immoral.
The girls can never leave the house alone. Ever. They have to take a bunch of girls.
They can't make friends, only people in the same circles that the parents know.
Just recently the girls were allowed to take a few college classes online with no hope of finishing or ever being able to work a job, except for being a midwife.
They can never ever have a conversation, even via text, with the person they're going to marry without the parents being included (listening on the telephone, group text, watching them skype, etc.). They can also never be alone with the person they're going to marry. They have to be chaperoned all the time even while on camera, even during the proposal.
They are not allowed to use birth control. They must let god determine how many kids they will have. No masturbation. No kissing until you're married. No hand holding until married or the engagement. They are left on their wedding nights not knowing anything about their bodies or the opposite gender. The internet is blocked and only for schooling. They haven't even seen a drawing of the parts. Michelle preaches that you must never ever refuse your husband no matter how tired you are from your day. Sex is expected nightly.
This is just a drop in the bucket. There is no free will. I don't care if they're super religious (pro-life, homophobic, as of this week unsurprisingly they're also anti-transgender), I don't agree with that but it isn't why I call them a cult. they can't be with who they want, have any freedom, marry who they want (Jim bob must approve), live where they want, go to a store alone, choose their own mate, speak to who they want, etc...it's disgusting. They're under surveillance constantly. Everything above is fact.
Now, there is a very strong rumor that josh was forcefully sexually appropriate with a girl who was 14 when he was also young. As punishment the parents shaved his head. Josh himself alluded to the devil getting to him, while young, on the show but never got into how. I believe this happened but unlike everything above, it is not a verified fact.
Jim bob and michelle were normal religious people until they were told their birth control was the cause of a miscarriage. Then they started obsessively reading the bible and in my opinion, went off the deep end. I feel for the kids, especially if any are gay. They will have no clue that they are normal and can have a happy life and family. :(

My friend was just telling me she thinks they announced so early because mama Dugger is under the microscope due to the fact she had a controversial Robo call to Arkansas to help veto a Transgender bill.

She must have gotten pregnant on the honeymoon.
With 19 kids her parents could end up with well over 100 grandchildren even if they restrain themselves and stop at 5 or 6.

Yes, I distinctly remember her being chastised for not giving a side-hug. 
I'm beyond dismayed at the expectation of "sex nightly".  It's like my great-great grandparents' generation in Italy, where women couldn't refuse and some men basically raped their wives.

I know a lot of people on this board like this family, but sorry, they are creeps. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if this cult were covering up some unsavory activities. In a couple of generations you could probably trace the depletion of our resources back to this family.

also - wtf happens if any of them has infertility? not being snarky- curious...they don't believe in fertility treatments, so would they adopt? accept their hand? how does that work? I know sometimes they have answered questions...was that ever one of them?

Yeah that disturbs me the most. It's SUCH an antiquated idea and to be honest, it degrades women and makes them into objects - existing only to please their husbands and get their husband's rocks off!

not so sure they are against IF treatments. In one of the more resent episodes, the parents when to an IF MD to find out about options for pregnancy if they could not conceive on their own. That alone tells me they are open to treatments.

I did see an episode where Michelle was asked how she felt about fertility treatments at a conference. She said she can't really say how she would feel because she has never been in that position, but she has seen the pain infertility has caused some of her friends.
You could tell it was BS b/c they always said it is "up to God", so clearly she has feelings about fertility treatments.

ITA and have thought this from day 1. I've always said, "Just wait until one of them escapes and writes a book."
I feel terrible for all of the children... one day, someone is going to snap.
