I know a lot of people on this board like this family, but sorry, they are creeps. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if this cult were covering up some unsavory activities. In a couple of generations you could probably trace the depletion of our resources back to this family.

I don't follow them so I don't know if it's ever been addressed... but I imagine they would be shunned and banished from the duggar compound for not following the family creed of overpopulating Earth with beings that walk around in 1970s hand me down polyester bell bottoms and jerry curled mullets .

I kind of disagree. I don't think they are a "cult" at all. They are just religious and follow those practices. That is the beauty of America. Live how you want. The kids look happy to me, the father isn't pimping out his girls and marrying them off at 13. There doesn't seem to be any abuse since the cameras are always around. They just have different beliefs that us and honestly I'd rather see kids court and get to know each other without physical contact before marriage, then watch some other shows where all the kids do is have sex, doing drugs and get knocked up at 16.

I'm sure that there will be one or more kids rebelling and doing a tell all, but that wouldn't surprise me, people rebel from their families all the time regardless of what beliefs they have or how they grew up.

not so sure they are against IF treatments. In one of the more resent episodes, the parents when to an IF MD to find out about options for pregnancy if they could not conceive on their own. That alone tells me they are open to treatments.

What's concerning to me is these girls don't have a choice. They seem to have a choice in who they marry (but still within their very religious circle), but it's marriage, then babies. And midwifery. College doesn't seem like an option. Neither does independence.

I'm sorry but I find Jim Bob just a little bit, ok a LOT of bit creepy. lol. If my dh was on top of me all day long trying to kiss me, I would tell him to back off. lol. He seems just a little bit too close with his daughters too. He seems like that dirty old man you try and avoid. lol

I do get how the kids are disciplined and well behaved and not animals like many kids now but they are trained like animals to be that way.

I don't think they're following religious "practices" at all. They've taken the Bible and interpreted it in an extreme way. If they want to prevent sex before marriage, they just need to teach their kids some values. And if they can't prevent sex before marriage, they can still teach their children values. It just seems that all of their practices are aimed at shutting out "sex". Ever see their modest bathing suits? Jeeeeze....
I'm just shocked that they wear so much makeup and get their hair done for the show. They look pretty.

Wait, so what is the story with the fertility doctor? Were they seeking out medical attention from a fertility doctor to have another baby? If that's the case they are the biggest bunch of hillbilly hypocrites. So using birth control to prevent pregnancies is wrong because it's against God's will for procreation but going to a fertility doctor to try and get pregnant isn't against God's will and is okay?

I thought they were seeing a recurrent loss specialist who was explaining her loss and then gave her chances of becoming pregnant again. I think that behind closed doors, they must have said, "honey, you're starting menopause. Give it up...."

Ive watched this show since the beginning, before they were in their current home. Yes, they have very ultra conservative, religous beliefs and i DO NOT agree with any of it but they have a right to raise their children how they want and teach them what they want. Just because it is not what most people would agree with does not make it a cult. There are many religions who follow the same modesty rules, bathing suits and all, even more so, to the point of no touching at all before marriage so I really dont think this is all that unique. And at the end of the day, these kids really do come across as having their own personalities and opinions, not just robots of their parents. Its not crazy that they belive the same as their parents, I am raising my children in my religion as i was raised and I hope they go on to believe and teach their children the same. If it was a cult they wouldnt associate with anyone who was different from them. If you follow the show you see them interacting and having firends who do not appear to be as conservative as they are, Jim Bob's own sister and neice do nto share their beliefs and they are around all the time, they are not trying to shelter the chidlren from them. Jill's husband also is not as conservative, he went to public school and college and is an accountant so he is far more wordly.
Now, as far as the IF doctor, Michelle was going to the dr to see if she was in menopause and what her chances were of still getting preganant, crazy yes, but whatever, its her life.

I watch the show.

Michelle was going to a high risk doctor to asses her chances of conceiving again because she is 46. They would like to have more children ("we leave the size of our family in G-d's hands) so wanted to see what her fertility was like.

They made it clear on the show that she was not seeing a fertility expert for IVF (or anything like that) just to see what her chances were of naturally conceiving.

The ONE thing I have always wondered about on this show....So the 4 older girls do everything. They cook, clean, watch the little kids. They pack for the trips, organize everything. So now that 2 of the 4 are gone its going to fall on the older 2 do ALL of that.

I have never seen ONE boy do any kinds of "women's work", nor have I seen any girl (with rare exception) do "mans" work.

So it always bothered me that they were raising girls who were taught you have to do "girls work".

I have seen some episodes where Michelle speaks and says you have to let the man lead the house and make the decisions. You have to let the man make the financial decisions. I don't agree with any of that...but Ill tell you the men who are marrying the daughters are getting well oiled machines to submit to them.

I also saw one episode (a few years ago) where they went to a stalactite cave and came out with the rocks. The Park ranger said "oh yeah, we know those rocks are 2 million years old (or something like that). Then cut to Jim Bob saying that he knew the rocks could only be 2005 years old but they wont correct the park the ranger.

I think they are a lovely family with good values (except the hate for the gays etc) and I would welcome them as my neighbors. I don't agree with how they raise their family, but they have a right to brainwash their children and teach them the earth is only 2014 years old.

What a shame that the daughter is announcing her pregnancy so early only because her mom is in hot water over her very recent remarks.

Hopefully she has a happy and healthy nine months.

I don't agree with pretty much anything about this family, and pimping out their daughter's pregnancy in order to sway attention away from the mother being a total disgusting twatrocket seals the deal on my opinion.

I will say, while I don't hate the family overall, I do not like Jim Bob or the oldest son. They both seem like jerks and I feel bad for their wives. My theory is that Jim Bob is a huge perv and can't control himself, which is what spawned all this avoidance of anything that could even slightly be construed as sexual.

I mean, I've heard of other religions banning dancing and making women wear long skirts but I've never heard of this 'side hug' nonsense.
