, all pics should be online. ...
I was married over 10 years ago.
Didn't have a digital camera back then.
How do I get THOSE pics online?
How about my baby pics, my husband's?
Trust me, I am the "world rolls off my back" kinda girl, but this was utterly negligent.
It is impossible to put a price on those memories, but your $500 is a slap in the face.
Scan your pics and then store them online.
They even have companies that will take your old albums and scan them for you........
Are you serious?
Do you know how many old pics I have?
That is just ridiculous.
You seem to have a quick answer for all of these scenarios.
It's nice that you are so organized.
But I hope something like this (or robbery; fire; natural disaster) never happens to you.

Safety deposit boxes require a key. Nobody in their right mind would carry said key around with them 24/7. Said key would be kept in the house that was EMPTIED. A safety deposit box would do jack.

Posted by TJLealand3 I have a backup of everything online..........
Do you have copies saved off-site? And in a second back-up location?
What about their belongings that can't be "backed up"?
I also get annoyed when I hear about frivolous lawsuits, but I'm not quite sure how this would be one

Now I know that I am going to take heat for this post but, so be it....
Everyone wants to sue, sue, sue their pants off!!!!!!
Yes, they should be compensated for the trouble this has caused, but how much, 500.00, 5,000.00, 50,000.00, 500,000.00 or 5,000,000.00.
Lets all think of the cost involved to buy our home and how if I don't clear the sidewalk in front of my home and a Moron falls it's my fault, why I have been called to jury duty and the number of civil suits are crippling the justice system. Let me be a juror and they get the cost of the locks, their stuff back and 500.00 for the trouble.
JMO
Sorry for the rant
I think you are married and have a child, right?
What about your DC's 1st baby photos, souvenirs, wedding pics, your souvenirs as a kid, late grandma's china cabinet that she gave you so it stays in the family, etc...? You get the idea.
It's not just about $$. What about the time and expense to go shopping again?
I am not for ridiculous lawsuit but man, this is a HUGE invasion of privacy and taking what does not belong to you and sometimes it all cannot be replaced. And why? Not because of an Act of God (hurrican, tornado, etc..) Because someone did not check who was living in the house.
Absolutely, many items cannot be replaced. You are right.
To the post that says if a juror would allow $500...where do you shop? I will run to furnish my home on $500.

Ok, I read it now but my opinion didn't change much, they should be reimbursed to replace what they lost, tv's, fridge, clothes,...... and to reprint their pics. I have a backup of everything online..........
But what if they took their computer, back up drives and everything... no pics! That would be devastating. And what about all the time they had to go with no appliances, clothes, etc...
I'm sorry but they need to be compensated tremendously for this.
ETA: And now i'm really thinking about everything that is lost forever... wedding gown, old baby photo albums, jewelry, files with bills, receipts, etc... i can't imagine what they are going through.
TJ brings up a REALLY good point, though... YES, this particular situation could have been avoided, but what about a house fire? We all should think about getting more organized and getting our irreplaceable pictures scanned and a safe deposit box, etc. This makes me want to begin working on it for my peace of mind!
I think these people should be compensated but jeez, there was an error made, an ‘honest mistake’ - Chase didn’t set out to ruin these particular people, they didn’t say “Hey, lets $crew those people because we don’t like them…” I think they should absolutely be well compensated but I would call it frivolous if they asked for say, $5 million or something.

I'm thinking about the Post Traumatic Stress on the family. They will never ever forget the way this bank turned their lives upside down.
I would be afraid that any day I could come home and it could happen again. Then I would have to replace everything.

Re: JPMorgan Chase Accidentally Breaks Into Your House And Steals Everything You Own
$50,000 is a fair amount. Would cover cost to refurnish and pain and suffering for loss of items of sentimental value. It is true if it were a fire, flood etc. these items may have been lost. The difference between the two incidents would be the word "gross negligence". JPMorgan is grossly negligent.

I don't think $5Ok is enought to replace everything you own
what about the time to replace it? time is money
not to mention $50K wouldn't replace everything in my apartment- I don't have what I consider "real" furniture yet

I agree...50k may work for some but may not be nearly enough for others. If we're talking about the value of their belongings, it should depend on their actual value..not some random number.

I think 50k is a fair amount of "damages" assuming they actually either brought back or replaced everything that the family owned.
If they didn't bring everything back, I would add on to that 50k. But if it's sentimental stuff that was lost, then that would be included in the 50k.
But now that I think about it, hell I would go 100k. What about identity thieft? How do you know whoever ransacked the place didn't take any bills with account numbers? That would be a tough cross to bear for many years knowing that tomorrow someone may hit up your credit report.

FWIW, this was done by a company owned by JPMC, not by JPMC itself. I think that IS an important distinction b/c the company operates separately from JPMC.

Also, I'm not a RE attorney, so I'm not sure... but how would the new owners have gotten a clear title search and title insurance without disposition of the foreclosure proceedings?

The title was probably clear, however the paperwork as to what house to raid on the bank's side I'm sure wasn't.
That's my take on it.

The article states that foreclosure proceedings were never stopped.
ETA quote from article posted:
fter the Dickson's bought the house back in May, the foreclosure proceedings were supposed to have been stopped. They weren't.

EMC was actually part of Bear Sterns. Before the big collapse and JP Morgan Chase bought them over.
I told DH he is not getting a raise this year (he used to be work for Bear Sterns now JP Morgan!!!). after this big boobool.

Re: JPMorgan Chase Accidentally Breaks Into Your House And Steals Everything You Own
Nothing much to add on the lawsuit/negligence suit except...
Your house is insured for the value of it's contents, right? Whatever you chose to value the contents of your home at, that is the price where they should start the retribution. It's up to you to figure out how much your contents are worth, and tell the insurance company so. And prove it, in cases of riders for jewelry, etc.
I had a friend who lost his entire house in a fire. He was savvy enough to have his really important digital files backed up and encased in a fire-proof filing cabinet. But he also lost thousands of vinyl records, which he couldn't really protect from fire and theft because of their size. He said that was the biggest loss to him, because how do you replace a media that isn't produced anymore?

This was done so sloppy is my biggest issue. Why do they not know where the items are? One should have time even under a foreclosure to get their things.
