Jury Duty. . . . .ugh
I got a summons for jury duty. Yuck! I work part-time (3 days a week), so I technically have a babysitter for those three days. I have to call in on the friday before to see if my number is called and I am not dure what to do. If I have to report on a Monday, I do not have childcare. Same with Wednesday because those are the days I do not typically work. I can postpone until the summer when DH is off, but honestly I don't really want to. I could send in DS birth certificate and get off for 2 years, but by then, I am hoping to have another child, so that won't be a good time either. Would I be able to pospone it again? This is just such bad timing. . . . .

I would call and pray your number doesn't get called. With the Court's closed Monday, it will be a slow week. What county?

I would postpone it, and of course in another two years you could postpone it again. As long as you say you don't have anyone to babysit for you, they can't expect you to leave your child alone. I would def. postpone it. I've postponed it once in college and again a year ago because I had a one year old.

I agree with Melissa.
Plus a lot of attorneys are away, I don't see a lot of trials starting next week. Even if you get called and have to go down, then at least it is time served.
Postponing means you just have to deal with it again in a few months

Re: Jury Duty. . . . .ugh
I postponed my jury duty for 15 years...got called and called and called...every year or so it seemed between federal and county court (dont know exactly but when they were allowed to call THEY CALLED)...
What I did was...I postponed it until a better time...(for me it was a week when I would have babysitting)...I had a fairly low number so I kind of knew I was getting called. I got called the second day...went in...got excused from the judge b/c I couldnt sit for a lengthy trial due to child care issues...
Now Ive served my time...and I wont be called for, I believe, 6 years...and Im excused from Federal for a certain amount of time now too...
I would go...Im going to say...worst case scenario...you'll only have to serve that 1 day...and then you'll get it over and done with.

This just happened to me as well. I send in my DS's birth certificate. You will get exempt for 2 years...if you get called again, you can do the same thing and they will excuse you again. This is all per the woman, Patty who I spoke to at the Suffolk County Commissioner of Jurors Office.
