Just got back from my growth sono appointment and am very worried/upset! UPDATE
I am exactly 38 weeks this thursday. I have been going for growth sonos every 3 weeks to keep an eye on the baby's growth and development. I have been pretty small throughout this entire pregnancy. The baby has not been really gaining a lot of weight and has been dropping percentiles 32 weeks - 3 lb 10 oz 33 % 35 weeks - 4 lb 12 oz 22% 38 weeks - 5 lb 1 oz less than 10 %
The had me do a non-stress test tonight and they said everything looks and sounds great with the heart.
However, they are sending me to for a maternal-fetal medicine consultation. Has anyone been? They want them to do their own thorough sono and make a decision about what to do - induce or leave the baby to cook a little more.
They swear to me that the organs and heart rate look great and that they would not have sent me home if there was any concern/danger to me or the baby. They are stating the baby can just be small because of genetics or because of something wrong with the placenta (no longer providing the baby with enough nutrition)
I am really freaking out even though they told me not to. I dont know what I am looking for - any advice or past experience anything????
Thanks for reading this if you got this far
UPDATE----I have an appointment at 1 today. Wish me luck!
Update - well we went to the sono specialist and everything with the baby looks good but the baby is small - weighing about 4 lbs 13 oz and measuring around 35 weeks. I have to go for a non-stress test and bio physical every 48 hours and if I dont go into labor on my own by next thursday they are going to induce me. So I have a regular OB appointment tomorrow night with my doctor and I will talk to her in more detail about the plan. Thank you for all the kind words and advice!!!!!!

Re: Just got back from my growth sono appointment and am very worried/upset!
No past experience here but this is something we will watch out for in my pregnancy because one of the twins has a 2-vessel umbilical cord instead of the normal 3-vessel. In some cases the doctor will take the baby early if they feel like their growth is being restricted in the womb. Since you are already 38 weeks its not really that early if they decide to induce. I hope everything goes well at your next appointment!

I wouldn't freak out if I were you from personal experience. Although I was on the other end (I was told she'd be 8-8.5 pounds and was 6 15), I learned not to believe growth sonos ever again!

I wanted to wish you the best and encourage you to listen to them if they say the baby's heart and organs are fine! Sometimes babies are just small when they're born.
I don't have personal experience, but I know I was only 5 lbs 3.5 oz when I was born and my brother was 5 lbs 5 oz when he was born. Yes, that was 32 and 29 years ago, but even with less technology and knowledge, we were perfectly healthy children (who are now somewhat overweight adults...).
Sending you prayers and hugs and good wishes!!!

Try not to stress too much....babies can be small for so many reasons. If they have to take the baby, you are already far enough along. I am having twins, so I go for growth sonos with a maternal-fetal doctor every month. The sonos are very thorough....they usually take about 30-40minutes.
Good luck!

Re: Just got back from my growth sono appointment and am very worried/upset!
Thank you so much for all the kind words. I have definitely calmed down a lot - part of the reason why I was also upset was because DH got stuck at work and I had to deal with this appointment all by myself so it was a lot to handle all at once. Thank you again I am calling first thing tomorrow am to get a sono appointment and then will call the doctor to speak with her specifically. Thank you again!!! I refuse to stress out tonight!!!!

Re: Just got back from my growth sono appointment and am very worried/upset! UPDATE
My placenta stopped working with DD at 30 weeks. I delivered a 5lb 3oz baby at 37 weeks. I went for NST/sonos every other day for the last 7 weeks. My placenta stopped working due to insulin dependency, but it can happen from a lot of reasons. She is perfectly healthy and thriving, although she was a little tiny at birth! Everything else with her was fine except for her size!! If they get nervous, the docs will induce you right away.

you will be fine, you'll just have a little tiny petite perfect baby!!! Its nerve-wrecking going through it, but I'm preg with #2 and they told me I have a 75% chance the same thing will happen and to just relax!

Thank you so much for sharing. It does make me feel much better. The sono tech and doctors keep reassuring me that everything is fine with the baby - organs/heart rate ect.... it is just the babies weight/size. so that definitely makes me feel much better.

My baby is measuring small too - I know how nerve wracking that can be! But try not to worry about it, your baby will be perfect!
