Re: Just how bad is it to get a wisdom tooth pulled without anesthesia?
I had one pulled with novacane....It was a spur of the moment decision during a visit. It wouldn't have been bad if I hadn't look at the large instrument that was being used the extract the tooth...THAT was the worst part!

Not bad at all. It was over soo fast and I didn't have to feel all bad from the meds.
Mine was not impacted though and I only got one pulled.

Take any relief you can. I had all four pulled at the same time and they were impacted. I was in so much pain.

Re: Just how bad is it to get a wisdom tooth pulled without anesthesia?
I have had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled with only Novocaine and sweet air. I am too afraid of needles in my vein. 2 of the teeth were soft tissue impacted and the other two were just normal and came in fully, but causing pain somehow so I got them pulled.
I had each done at separate times. I did not feel any pain while I was getting them pulled, only pressure. I like to be awake b/c I ask them every step they are doing (I am such an annoying dentist patient!), but I want to know what is happening every step.
The pain after is not bad, I think root canal is far worse. If the tooth is decayed is the root and nerve decayed? If it is then you will not feel much pain.
ETA: It is much cheaper if you don't get put out. My parents were so happy I didn't want to get put out b/c they saved like $200 per tooth! Their insurance didn't cover oral surgery.

Re: Just how bad is it to get a wisdom tooth pulled without anesthesia?
I have had 4 impacted wisdom teeth pulled with local injections/sweet air (for 2 only).
I would personally not get put out if it was impacted, but if you are deathly afraid then you may want to.
I also get filling drilled without injections/novacaine, anything to numb the area so that's where I speak from.

Re: Just how bad is it to get a wisdom tooth pulled without anesthesia?
I had 2 done without being out and the only issu was 7 shots of novocaine in the jaw and one of the roots was corkscrew and they had trouble getting it out. Maybe it would have been better if it hadn't been corkscrewed, but I opted to be put out for the other 2.
DH just had one taken out with only novocaine and he came home and wa working right away - painfully, but he could do it.
