Just out of curiosity...dominant hand question
I know it is WAY too early to tell which will be DS' dominant hand, but both of our families are a mix of lefties and righties, so it will be cool to see. For those who have kids old enough to show a dominant hand, did they give any indications when they were younger as to which hand was going to be dominant? Right now, at 4 months, I would put money down that he will be a lefty. He always grabs his left foot with his left and, when he attempts to hold a bottle it is with his left hand, and he tends to reach for toys with his left hand. Did anyone else notice their DC use one hand more than the other at a young age and then it turn out to be their "preferred" hand?
Again, just curious! Thanks!!

Re: Just out of curiosity...dominant hand question
I think they used both equally until about the age of 1, then they would definitely show their dominant hand. My husband and I are lefties and NONE of our kids are lefties, go figure

Re: Just out of curiosity...dominant hand question
from 6 months on, AJ favored his left hand...
by 2 we knew he was going to be a lefty.
at 4 he still uses his left hand, and he has great penmanship, but can also write with his right hand.
he is though a lefty

Re: Just out of curiosity...dominant hand question
According to scientists, handedness emerges between 7 and 13 months and is quite obvious by age 3.

Re: Just out of curiosity...dominant hand question
It was clear as day to me at 6m. But it was pretty obvious at 4m too... I just didn't let myself believe it.
I actually thought its a bad thing and wanted him to exercise his left hand as much as his right, so I would push him to hold things in his left, and do things with his left. I even alternate the hand I give him food in, or utensils in, hoping he'd work out skills with both.
He's 17m now and still he's very very right hand dominant. Like his momma, we both walk around and do things like our left hands are paralyzed. I wish I was more ambidextrous.

Re: Just out of curiosity...dominant hand question
DS did everything with his left hand up until about 15 months old. Now almost everything is his right hand at 21 months old. I have no idea what he is going to be... My Mom, hubby, and many family members are lefty. He eats a lot with his left hand, but he draws with his right..

Re: Just out of curiosity...dominant hand question
I'd say at about four or five months old, we noticed DS favoring his right hand. He still does at two, so I think he is a righty.
