Re: Keeping track of poops and feedings

I did for the first few days, thinking the dr. was going to want to see it, but then she didn't even ask about it, so that was the end of that.

Re: Keeping track of poops and feedings

I kept a log of all feedings for the first month or so, then it became 2nd nature to me. The first month I was so sleep deprived I could barely remember what time he ate last or how much, so I had to write it all down! Poop I didn't keep track of bc at the time he was on BM so he pooped after every feeding.

They sent me home with a sheet from the hospital (I believe it was a chart for the first 14 days home) and I used it.

No I never did. I fed him when he wanted to be fed and changed him after feedings and just kept an estimate in my head how many dirty diapers he had. I never concerned myself with "numbers" unless there was something off. Chat Icon

I think I did it for the first week or 2 after we got out of the hospital and then stopped.

I kept a log of his feeding for the first 2 weeks and his diapers for the first week. I'm still so sleep deprived at 7 weeks that I wear the mommy bracelet so I can remember which breast I fed him with last and at what time.

Re: Keeping track of poops and feedings

i did for the first few days but then got annoyed and stopped Chat Icon it was helpful because DH was helping with a cuople of the nighttime feedings but once we got into a semi-routine and were comforotable with his wet/poopy diapers we didn't need to anymore.

Re: Keeping track of poops and feedings

DD is 3 weeks old today. We've been keeping a log of feedings and diaper changes since she was born. We just stopped tracking diaper changes this weekend because she's going regularly, so we know this isn't an issue. Instead, I'm now tracking feedings (when and how much she eats) and sleep sessions because I want to see her natural patterns in hopes of developing a routine around them in the near future.

Re: Keeping track of poops and feedings

I did up until a month ago!Chat Icon It helped when I had a babysitter here. I always knew how many oz's they ate, if they pooped that day, how much they slept etc. I also wanted to do it because my son has food allergies and I wanted to know what he ate in case he had a reaction

I only did in the beginning, when she wasn't eating a lot. Now, I'll notice if she hasn't gone in more than a day, and there's no question that she's eating enough. I don't think it's necessary. As long as there are wet and dirty diapers, then she's getting enough to eat.

I did for the first week and then stopped. I just wanted to make sure she had enough wet/dirty diapers from BF'ing. Once I noticed she was pooping and peeing with every diaper change, I quit keeping a log. It was too much work!

Same here.
I also did it because I kept track of which side he fed on. He only stayed on one side each feeding until he was about the 2nd month. I was delirious and the bracelet thing didn't really work.

Re: Keeping track of poops and feedings

I did because DD had trouble getting back to her birth weight and she lost a lot of weight in the hospital. Once we stopped going for weight checks I stopped logging.

If you have any question you can keep going until your first ped appt and if DS has gained weight you are probably good to go!

DS is 3 1/2 weeks and I keep track. He doesn't have a BM everyday so it helps to know if I should be concerned or not (or at least know what I'm in for. Chat Icon

Re: Keeping track of poops and feedings

I did for several months and sleeping patterns too. I was a SAHM at the time and I was concerned about overfeeding him, since he was a big eater. Also, as he reached about 3 months, I saw what patterns were emerging and it really helped me guide him into a sleeping and eating schedule based on what he was already doing naturally.
