There would be no serving ketchup with my meals unless it's burgers and dogs.

DH used to slop it all over his mother's meatloaf, I don't even let him near it when I make it, and he doesn't want it!!!!!!

I am a condiment whore. All food tastes better with condiments to me. Maybe it is an oral fixation, I just like dipping food in stuff Chat Icon

Putting ketchup on a burger before you eat it is different. You know you like it that way. YOu aren't trying to drown out the taste of the burger.

I thought this was almost too simplistic to have to say...but since you did..

you see the distinction, and this is why I love you.

For some reason, it only bothers me if DH does it. Not with ketchup but with salt & pepper. How does he know it's not salty already?!?!? Makes me nuts.

Anyone else, I don't care... go ahead and ruin your food! Chat Icon

Geeze, I never even think about this stuff. Some people like their food with condiments and have a habit or putting that on before they eat it.

I know plenty of people who will add salt / pepper / BBQ sauce / ketchup / etc. to something before tasting it. I don't see anything wrong with that. They happen to like whatever it is you're serving with that condiment - it's not an insult to your cooking at all.

I don't know too many people who taste a hamburger and then decide if they want ketchup on it... JMHO.

I like condiments. I dont eat beef without ketchup and I dont care if Peter Friggin Luger grilled it himself.

what about Luger sauce? that's awesome.

and to be clear (since I must not express myself well enough)

I have nothing against condiments. there is "steak sauce" for a reason.

my issue is when you serve someone a plate of food, they look at it, and pour ketchup all over it. not all food is cooked the same. you may not "need" it.

that is all.

Re: Ketchup spinoff...does it bother you when you take the time to cook (and hopefully season)

That would make me crazy - but it hasn't happened.

I HAVE had people immediately start shaking salt all over a meal that I have prepared and seasoned - without tasting first. I find it completely rude. But short of hiding the salt shaker and telling people that they can't have it when they ask... what can ya do?

Ketchup is not one of those foods that you may or may not use depending on the taste of the food. You either eat the meal with ketchup or you don't.

Salt is a different story, I always taste first, though I admit I like my food salty and will often add salt.

Yes, and it bothers me when they put salt and pepper too. How do they know I didn't already put a pound of salt in there?!?

YES!! I make my husband Shepards Pie all the time. Part of the recipe is gravy. Why the hell do you need flipping ketchup on top of it.

Re: Ketchup spinoff...does it bother you when you take the time to cook (and hopefully season)

I was so happy to see this post. DH and I fight about this all the time. I don't care when he puts ketchup on most things, but when we go out to a steakhouse or I make a nice marinated steak, and we are spending all this money on it, WHY ON EARCH would you ruin it by drowning it in ketchup? He "claims" to love steak but really all he likes is ketchup because he can't even taste the steak! He may as well just buy frozen flat steak-ums and let me have the good stuff by myself!

I usually liquor people up before they eat my cooking. Chat Icon

And of course I put out all the condiments! It's in their best interest. Chat Icon
