Nah, it doesn't bother me in the least. I'm used to it, because DH puts ketchup on everything, no matter what.

I wouldn't bother me at all.

If I made DH anything, it wouldn't surprise me if he spiced it. He would also add his own meat & vegetables, put what I made to the side of his plate to be tossed later.Chat Icon

I pour ketchup all over any type of red meat...no matter what the flavor/seasoning. I just like the taste of it, kinda like how others like gravy or steak sauce. It's not that I use it to add taste or because it isn't flavorful otherwise, but I like the way ketchup tastes, so it adds to the flavor. It drives my dad crazy. He will get a really good, juicy cut of meat and he says I ruin it w/ ketchup.Chat Icon

I like what I like, can't help it....

Re: Ketchup spinoff...does it bother you when you take the time to cook (and hopefully season)

who cares? people enjoy things differently.

i can NOT eat a hot dog or hamburger (veggie, whatever) withOUT ketchup.

it will not happen. if i dont have ketchup, i wont eat it. i dont taste it first. why would i?

its not just ketchup. its anything, BBQ sauce, salt, cheese, etc....

its just hjow someone LIKES their food, its not an insult to the cook.

if you think it "doesnt need it" then dont put anything on it. but i would suggest to stop worrying about other peoples' eating habits. there are soo many more things to get offended by than someone adding a condiment to the food youve cooked.

a meal and someone pours ketchup all over it?!

this drives me NUTS. without even tasting it to see if it suked FIRST.

I am not a ketchup fan. it's like a substitute for flavor and I like to taste my food...not a big ol' plate full of ketchup. I rarely even put it on fries. My sister on the other hand, eats JUST ketchup. she loves it.

but she also can't cook, so there may be something to that....

Yes. It took me years to break DH of this habit. Never would even taste the food first. I realized about 4 months into our relationship that he "had to" do this growing up to make his food edible...if you KWIM.

I put malt vinegar on my fries (that I cook), so I am not a fan of ketchup either.

Ketchup wouldn't bother me, but salt does.
I find a lot of smokers salt their food before tasting.

OMG - my husband is the condiment King. He bathes his food it in, no matter what it is, without even tasting it. It's sooooo annoying!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Wow a lot of people got personally defensive about this one- I think it was just a question.

In my mind's eye- I am picturing gourmet meals plus ketchup.
Like- not a regular grilled burger.
But a lamb burger with rocquefort cheese and an herb tomato reduction drizzle, served on home made artisan bread... slathered with ketchup- might bother you because hey- why bother creating gourmet food if it's not going to be eaten with respect for it's gourmet presentation?

I am super into cooking and I totally can see what you're saying, but I think in general we're creatures of habit. I think if Cletus is used to dumping ketchup on his burger, he'll do it whether it's horsemeat or a grilled lamb and bacon with Roquefort. I wouldn't get mad if someone did it because they just love ketchup, but I know people who do it because they're used to bad cooking and perhaps they should just give it a shot before the ketchup.

interesting.....a lot of smokers lose sensitivity in their taste buds. I know for me that about 6 months after I stopped smoking I noticed that food tasted waaay different (in a good way Chat Icon )
