Sorry, the only kid parties I go to are for family.

So I guess the answer is no, they don't invite me! Chat Icon

Re: kid birthday parties

I haven't been invited to one in a while, probably about a year. And I know my gf had one for her 4 year old last weekend (she told me she was having the party) but didnt invite me, probably because she knows I would want to poke my eyes out with hot coals as I sit there.

Last one was a christening party with a million kids running in circles around a restaurant (it was rented out, no other people but us). It was horrific. One kid slammed another kid into a wall, gave him a bloody lip, the mother had a meltdown in front of me. Lots o fun.

Re: kid birthday parties

Only one of our friends have a child. We were invited the first 2 years, and then I think they got the hint because we didn't get an invite to the 3rd year.

Family we of course will go to - My family used to have the kiddy and the adult bday party for each kid - so when I was a teenager I would goto both - now i will only goto the adult party.

Re: kid birthday parties

I was invited to a first birthday party for the child of one of DH's friends.
I didn't want to go, but sucked it up for DH.
It was awkward because I barely knew anyone, and most everyone else was looking after their child/ren. I felt a bit lost.
Unless it is family or close friends, I won't do this again.

Do your friends invite you to their kids parties?--Some do and some don't. Usually the 1st b-day is the "big deal" that lots of people get invited to.

Do you go?--If I am free, sure

Do you like to go?--Not to the ones outside in August in 95 degree weather!

I've never been invited.

Most of my friends have babies but here are 2 couples I am closest with-. One doesn't have big parties. They didn't really have birthday partioes untill their oldest went to pre-school & had his owns friends, so that's who they invite, not their own friends.

No one I knwo has big 1st birthday parties in halls & restaurnts with favors & clowns that I see people on her posting about.

The other couple hasn't reached the 1 year mark yet.

There is only 1 baby in my family & she lives on the other side of the country. Chat Icon

Re: kid birthday parties

No. Sometimes it makes very awkward when it's obvious they are not inviting me. It's a little amusing when they start with the "Well, you don't have kids...you'd be bored...all us parents just sit around and talk kids and enjoy our kids...you'd have nothing to talk about..."

Re: kid birthday parties

I was single and childless until I was much older. I usually wasn't invited unless it was for my niece and nephew. I was offended. I didn't feel that the friends who had kids were trying to continue to fit me into their lives. It's water under the bridge now but it hurt.

Re: kid birthday parties

I'll go to first birthday parties and my nieces' birthday parties. We decline all others, so the invites have slowed down quite a bit.

Re: kid birthday parties

Friends do not have kids yet, cousins do.

I have been invited to a cple. I have gone if I was free. Since I dont have children yet my cousins were more like "Oh Jake's party is at Fun Time on saturday. It is just kids but if you are around stop by".

I do enjoy them bc it is a chance to hang with family.

I will do the same when and if I am invited to friends kids parties (if I odnt have kids myself) if I can stop by I will.

Re: kid birthday parties

Yes our friends have invited us to their kid's birthday parties.

Yes DH and I have gone. We've been to parties at homes, Chuck E. Cheese, Boomer's, bowling alleys, Knights of Columbus, state parks, etc just to name a place places, for childrens' birthday parties.

Yes, I like going. For the most part, the kids all play together, and the adults enjoy themselves catching up and talking. Like when the party is at a friend's house, the kids will have activities they are doing, running around outside or in the backyard...while the adults are just hanging in the kitchen and living room.

I know that time with my friends with kids is limited sometimes, cause well...they don't get out as much. So if they invite me to a party, even if its for their kid, I don't mind. They're all good kids, very gracious when we give them a gift, and are generally happy to see us when we're there.

DH and I are invited to our niece's birthday kid's parties. I usually do whatever activity with them (like bowling) or hang out with the non-birthday niece and do stuff with her.

Re: kid birthday parties

I have gone to a few for my husband's nieces/nephews (I don't have any nieces or nephews of my own).
My husband however will NEVER go.
He just refuses.
Sometimes it's ok, other times it's intolerable.
But I try to go out of obligation...
