I can understand if it was a few nights a week, but not every single night. Like a PP wrote, I feel like it creates a bond with your child. Its time for just the two of you.
To say that you can't function without 8-10 hours of sleep when you've just had a baby...seems absurd.
Do you have children?
Do you know how bad sleep deprivation hits when you have a newborn - especailly with a child who doesn't sleep? Function? You can't even think straigt.
It's bad and its rough and I can bet you that if most mothers could afford a night nurse they would do. Especially if they've already gone through it once.
Thank you! I love the judgement. And I didn't NEED 8-10 hours of sleep. But I could have used more than 2 hours. My DD was up every 2 hours... no joke. For MONTHS. And my DH worked nights- so I was alone most nights. And as far as bonding- please. Getting no sleep and being woken up every 2 hours does NOTHING for your bonding- in fact, I was at the point where it was breeding resentment. And I am NOT ashamed to say that. Nobody gets it until they have been through it. I really think judgement should be reserved.
Nell, I love your honestly and I have to say I agree with every word. My mom never slept when she had me because I was Colic. She couldn't get a wink and had another small child at home as well. It's not healthy and if she could have had a nurse, or my grandma, sleeping over to help her she would. She still jokes that she hasn't caught up on the sleep I deprieved her of!

Re: Kim K. Needs Her Sleep
wait so doing a realty show isnt work? how about tons of photo shoots and meetings for her clothing line and store
i didn't/wouldnt have a nurse but that's because i ebf for the first few weeks. and mannnnnnnnnnnn were those first few weeks hard. the only reason why the lack of sleep didn't bother me so much was because i was use to taking care of my senior shih tzu. even when DD started sleeping through the night i still didnt because i needed to pump to keep my supply up.
big ups to sahm because when im home on the weekends all i do is spend time with dd. im lucky if i can get my house cleaned.
if you can swing a nurse, chef, house cleaner. GO FOR IT!!!!

But what else is she so busy doing? What occupies Kim's time that she NEEDS to have 8-10 hours of sleep at night or she can't function? Function doing WHAT exactly?
Again, I say it, she's useless. I don't knock people with jobs and lives and responsibilites who have help- any normal person deserves a night nanny more than she does. She should have to sit by that crib at night and deal with the consequences of her actions rather than pawning it off on someone else. And so should he!
So because she hired help she is useless?
I work FT and would never hire a housekeeper. Yet, I have friends who are SAHM's who have housekeepers and put their kids in daycare a few days a week so they can go to the gym and get manicures and pedicures.
I would never say they are useless...
No, because she's Kim Kardashian she's useless. I'm sorry but if I were your friend, I'd be insulted that you're comparing me being a SAHM to Kim Kardashian.

And I'd like to add that while she may have become famous for "no good reason" she now runs an empire. She has her clothing line, stores, the shows. Those do require work. She does need to function.

I don't understand some posters who say "she has the money, so why not?!" Does being rich (for doing nothing, btw) really mean that she is above having to take care of her kid every night?
Personally, I feel like when you choose to have a baby...you take the good with the bad. You take the long nights right along with the happy smiles.
At the end of the day...it's just gossip. Nobody here really knows what goes on behind her closed doors so I'm not going to judge her personally. I think it's just the IDEA of having someone care for your child EVERY night that has some people tweaked.
Well does being rich also mean you are above cleaning your house? Because I am sure all the celebs have housekeepers.
Does it mean you are above driving a Toyota and can opt for a Bentley?
The fact is, having money DOES afford you more luxuries that others don't have. And to me, a night nurse is just that- a luxury. It does not mean you love your child any less... it means you can afford help during the most difficult times. Waking up every 2 hours to a screaming baby does not make you a better mother IMO. It made me a more stressed, frazzled mother. But certainly not a better one.

ITA - I was hardly bonding with my dd when it was 2AM she was screaming and I was hysterical and THISCLOSE to throwing her out of the window. Thank god DH was there. The frustration and sleep deprivation made me a crazy person.
I won't pass judgement on any person who hires a night nurse. If you can afford it then go for it!
This story is just "news" because its Kim K.

Kim K. Needs Her Sleep
I am not fan of Kim K but this girl can't even breathe without being attacked.
I don't judge her for this at all. My DS is 16 months and still doesn't sleep. At this point, I would kill for a night nurse!

This makes me sad. I hope her supply tanks for not pumping/nursing for 8 hours a newborn. This anger me bc not every mom can BF!!
Didnt she say on a recent ep of KUWTK that in order to be a good gf to Kayne she needs her sleep so he was going to be doing night duty?

I really never meant for this to turn into what it has. I thought everyone was a KK hater and it would be just a bunch of inserted.
Everyone just ran away with this one because the topic of kids and how they are raised is unique to each family.
I think the absurdity of the article is not the night nurse issue...to each their own! But the fact that the article claims she requires 8-10 hours of sleep at night.
Non-celebrity moms manage to take care of their children, maintain their homes, feed their families, and even work FT jobs on less than 8-10 hours of sleep.
She may "run an empire" but we all know she's mostly just a face behind those lines.
And this isn't about bashing or attacking Kim personally, because who even knows the accuracy of this article...It's more about the IDEA of it.
You have a newborn. 8-10 hours a night is unrealistic and quite frankly I feel that the fact that she has the $$ to pay for it does not mean that she SHOULD! If it works for her - then it is what it is. Nobody will ever agree on the issue.

Here
I am a KK hater though I don't really have an opinion on this. My mom gave me free baby night nurse service for a few days and it was a lifesaver.
As for her "empire" I do have a feeling it's her putting her name on shit and other people doing the real work.

absolutely. That's how it works. I hope nobody thinks she's actually sitting there designing clothes herself. it's just branding....and as far as managing all the branding...her MOTHER runs the empire.

Yupp, just like the namesake of my company has input on everything that goes on here... Oh, wait. He's dead. And even before that he had little to nothing to do with day to day operations. I'll believe Kim attends "important business meetings" (while the cameras for her reality show AREN'T running) when my sh!t turns purple and smells like rainbow sherbert.

I have to be honest with you- when DD was a newborn and she NEVER EVER slept- day or night- I dreamed of a night nurse. I said- if we had the money I would do it in a heartbeat. Just for the nighttime. Just so we could sleep. Sleep deprevation is a horrible horrible thing- especially after just giving birth and dealing with PP hormones etc. It nearly broke me.
I see nothing wrong with it considering how much money she has- I'd have done the same if I was as rich as her. There is nothing wrong with getting some help if you can. Not sure why new moms are expected to be heros.
And I am the farthest thing from a Kim K fan that you can find! Can't stand her!
Same here!

Not much of difference from hiring a nanny if you ask me.
I would much rather have someone help me at night so i could sleep. I could be a monster when i'm tired.

Again--nailing it with your honesty. The physical requirement of sleep means that you can try all you want, but at a certain point, you're better off re: what you have to give if you have some help. Actually better off. I think how real you are makes you a better mother --and your kid(s) will be better off for not having a mother who is not so quick to judge and who doesn't exhibit willful blindness to certain realities just to feel superior.

Kim K. Needs Her Sleep
I bet almost every single celebrity that had a child had either a nanny or night nurse. This is just news because it's KimK. It is pathetic that this is even a story. More power to her that she can get some sleep. It does not make you a better parent because you were sleep deprived. DD is 6 and has never slept through the night yet. I have 6 years of sleep deprivation and would have loved a night nurse. Like I tell my daughter every day, worry about yourself and not what others are doing.

I don't judge her for having a night nurse but I do judge celebs or anyone that hires full time round the clock care for their children so if she follows up with a full time nanny who does it all for her and she doesn't do any of the raising of the child herself.
I went to school with a girl who was raised by a nanny. She was always resentful of mothers/fathers that were around. When she turned 14 the woman that was basically her mother was let go and she didn't have contact with her and she started really getting rebellious. She always went on and on about not ever becoming a mother because she had no idea what a family is supposed to be like. She wound up getting quite a bit of therapy. I lost touch with her about 8 years ago after college and have no idea what she is like now.
