Omg-I would be severely disappointed in that gift. I mean, you can have that anytime. A birthday is supposed to be special.

for me it wouldnt be weird but we dont do it like that exactly. we treat bday's at restaurants like a wedding. basically the host pays the bill but everyone usually brings an envelope as a gift.
the only time we dont do that is with friends who aren't russian.
sounds like russians and latinos are awful similar. this is roughly how we would do it

I would think the fact that he gave it to her was weird. He can do what ever he liked with the $$ cause he put it on his card. I have done that before but always kept the cash to pay the bill
But I do wonder if that $$ was her present

The only weird thing is that he handed it to her at the table, other than that I don't think there's anything bizarre about it at all. It was technically his gift to her. And I don't think it's right to say he should have treated 25 of her friends, they paid for their own dinner. He gave her a $600 bday gift. Thats all
