Anyone's DC starting K in Sept? DS is and although there is an excellent plan in place, I am a nervous wreck.
I just want him to enjoy school.

Re: Kindergarten
Me! My twins will be in k (we are in Queens). One is going into ICT and the other in a self contained class (he's academically above k, but has a lack of focus and self control). I'm not gonna lie, I'm nervous as hell.
It's a completely new school where they don't know them. I know so much is expected now in kindergarten. Like you, just want them to have a great experience and fun and make friends.
What type of class is your son going in?

So far the plan is 1/2 day in a self contained class to learn focusing skills and sitting still, etc. The remainder will be in an inclusion class with a shadow to make sure he stays on task. DS knows basic math and reading so he is a tiny bit ahead in academics but lack focus, social skills, etc.
The teachers will meet with me 2-3 months into the school year to see if his IEP needs to change. I worry b/c he really wants to fit in socially with his peers but he doesn't have the verbal or social skills yet. I just don't want kids to tease him or label him the "weird" kid

Wow! Sounds like you have an awesome plan. I'm a bit jealous bc I have none of that. Lol. I mean they have their IEPs and the school said we will just have to see how they do and monitor their progress but as of now no formal meetings set.
Don't worry. I don't think in kindergarten yet, they understand weird. I think in kindergarten all kids have some sort of issues. I went and spent time in the inclusion class bc we wanted to make sure it was a good fit for my son and I was surprised bc some of the kids on the General Ed side I thought had IEPs and vice versa.

Yep. I'm a mess. He's excited out of his mind.
He's going into self contained because he still has a difficult time expressing himself and was hitting teachers when he was frustrated. They don't anticipate him staying there. He has PDD-NOS but it can't be diagnosed anymore and he tested none to minimal on the CARS, so he's in this weird diagnosis middle ground.
I am a hot mess. And I taught Kindergarten. What if he's teased? What if he has a hard time in his class? What if he has a hard time on the bus?
My anxiety is through the roof.
