Kitchen update! And question...
It's almost done!
The granite counters were installed on Friday and we put on all the knobs/pulls last week.
The only things left to do are:
-backsplash -install crown moulding on top of cabinets and toekicks on bottom -install the faucet & drains -put up the cabinet over the fridge when new side panel comes in (wrong size ordered)
K now for my question... We are doing white subway tile backsplash. What do you guys think of also doing the subway tiles behind the raised bar (pic below)?
More pics of granite...
We had to move the pantry out so they could get that piece of granite in in one piece:
after
we went with the bevel edge

Re: Kitchen update! And question...
I would defenitely put in the tiles under teh bar, especially if you are goign to be using bar stools. The underside of my island is a disaster from the stools hitting it and peoples shoes. Its much easier to clean up teh tiels then the wall!!! Everythign looks gorgeous!!!

Re: Kitchen update! And question...
Everything looks awsome, but I think the tiles facing the living area would be to much...What about painting it the color of the living area? Or doing bead board?

Re: Kitchen update! And question...
Absolutely Stunning!
Love the idea of putting tiles in that area, like the PP said, so much easier to clean!

Gorgeous Jess! I love it!
I just can't envision the tiles on the back of the raised bar. We have panels that match our cabinets on our island. Or like another posted mentioned wainscotting would look nice too.

Re: Kitchen update! And question...
Did you decide on a full slab? It looks great!
I was not sure what to think of the tile under the island since he is facing the LR, right? But what the PP said makes sense in term of practicality and ease of clean up.

It looks awesome Jess!!!!
I agree with the bead board suggestion. I wouldn't do tile, but I'm sure whatever you choose will look great.

Re: Kitchen update! And question...
I actually would think you would do the same pattern as the cabinet front with wood. In the same scale. Make sense?

Yes we decided on a full slab, we got a great deal.
That side of the island faces the LR/DR so that's why we aren't sure how it's going to look. DH loves the idea though. Maybe we can hold some up when we get them for the backsplash to get an idea of what it will look like.

Re: Kitchen update! And question...
Looks great!
I think if you paint the wall under the bar with a satin/eggshell paint (not flat) then you won't have a problem with scuffs, etc. Semi-gloss paint will resist stains even better.
Our bar wall had flat white paint on it and it got all scuffed from our knees and shoes. After we painted it with satin, it's been fine.
ETA: I should say we use our bar every day. We don't have a kitchen table (small apt).

Re: Kitchen update! And question...
I would do the tiles under the bar as well, it will tie everything in and be easy to clean.
By the way, your kitchen looks amazing! Great work!

Re: Kitchen update! And question...
It looks fantastic!
Agree with other PPs though. Think the tile on the bar would be too much. Perhaps use the same paint you are using in the adjoining room to tie it together?

Re: Kitchen update! And question...
Love the kitchen. Mine is very similar - I have white with black granite & subway tile. I'm thinking that it'll be too much tile.
The handles are really nice too!

Re: Kitchen update! And question...
i think the tiles will be too much what about the color of the next room or cabinet color.. there will be chairs so people wont see it.. or you can always put bead board I think that will look awesome
