Seriously? This Board, which exists for support and comeraderie among people who are questioned and accused of being selfish, creepy, and immature, now has to have wonderful women defending themselves from fellow posters calling THEM creepy, immature, etc.? Really?
The irony of the cruelty and rudeness we've been seeing as people are not merely disagreed with, but questioned in a disparaging way-is unreal.
I say that if you're happy with your vacations, your life, and your dh and you don't feel the need to be so hurtful, you're doing ok--better than many on here--and you should party on in Disney or anywhere else you choose.
Thanks, lady!
That's what I was saying. The same folks who band together saying we don't have to defend our choices basically putting someone down for their choices is the height of hypocrisy to me.

see this is the problem..
dh and i love disney...we go every year..we went 2 weeks on our honeymoon
we totally get it is not for everyone and most of our friends would never go and they prefer to go to diff places every yr..
for us going to a place where we r not sure if we r going to like food etc just does not appeal..and we both cannot sit on a beach all day
so for us the rides, the food and the"countries" in disney are perfect for us..we always have the best time
i do not judge or frown upon anyone's choice in vacation..you should go where you want that is why it is a vacation
but when you are 2 adults with no kids who love disney you get branded as creepy or strange or people cannot seem to get the appeal..but if i said that about someone who goes to a island every year i would be crazy
This is how I feel. I want to try new places, but I like the familiarity of Disney. I know what to expect but at the same time there is always something new.
I went for a week to a beach and I admittedly overdid it planning excusions and activities sometimes 2 a day, but I'm not the kind of person who can sit still. I love the variety at Disney. One day it's acting like a kid riding the rides at MK, Another day it's watching my DH carry on a conversation in Japanese at EPCOT, next day it's having animal encounters. It's fun

Oh, WAH. Hold on, let me go get the world's smallest violin and play a very sad song on it.
YES, this board is for people who share one aspect of their life - not having kids for whatever reason. And we can and do support each other on that. But DANG, if I find something to be weird or creepy, I'm gonna say it. Adults that have an obsession with Disney are filed under "weirdo" in my noggin. That has nothing to do with my own happiness in my life. Everyone passes judgement. Everyone. And if I'm the one to say it this time around, so be it. Clearly, I'm not the only one that feels that way anyway.

I have to be honest...that response saddens me...I def respect your opinion and of course you are entitled to it
I just think esp on this board where you have to defend your choices you are so quick to judge someone on their's..even if u feel that we r weirdos just to be so blunt about it and not care if you offend? Maybe that's cool for you,I don't know
But what would have happened if I wrote in my book anyone who chooses to not have children in my noggin is a "weirdo"...I would have gotten my ass chewed out by this whole board and I would have deserved it
It might not be the same thing but it is still judgement...it is not about putting big girl panties on and dealing with it...you think I am a weirdo that's fine, but to say it like yea I dk if I offend anyone with what I write bc everyone passes judgment???I just thought on this board esp u knew what it was like to have things said unfairly bc u chose one thing over another
Nobody no matter what they choose should make someone else feel bad or sad or diff for what they choose to do or have in this life...whether its having kids, eating meat, going to disney, breastfeeding, having a big tax return.....
Idk...just hit a nerve with me and now I know I will get flamed out and be told to suuck it up...I just had to write how I felt

You're right. It is possible to state your feelings without hurting others. ("Amusement parks don't do it for me." "I wouldn't be alright going to the same place every year.") No one should flame you for asking people not to be unnecessarily rude and hurtful...it desn't make them look very "adult."

Here's the thing though. Don't you wanna actually go to Mexico? Or go to Germany? Or any of the other places you can "go" to in Epcot? I love to travel and I just find it odd. Then again I hate vegas because it just seems so fake....
Yeah, absolutely! We're toying with several options for a big vacation this year. Italy, an island, visiting our good friend in Singapore, etc.
The thing is, I really do love Disney World. I enjoy the kid stuff. I have SO much stress in my life that it's nice to have an escape.
It's also a much more accessible trip than any of those international destinations. It's cheaper, it doesn't have a long flight. Things change so you can go year after year and always see something new.
It's not stopping us from taking other trips. We have also started going to CO every year (I have family there) and taking some weekend trips. The bigger trips are harder to decide on, but Disney is easier. I know how much it will cost, what to expect, etc.
Basically now that we're financially settled we plan to hopefully be able to take a Disney trip and a big vacation every year.
As I mentioned we're planning for Hawaii and Disneyland next year, so we probably won't go to Disney World.
We're also trying to fit in a family trip to Hawaii AND a trip back to Sandals over the next 2-3 years.
I LOVE to travel. I never got to go on vacation growing up so now I want to travel eveywhere. Disney is just part of it. We can't afford to spend all 4 weeks of our vacation in Europe, or on a caribbean island, but we can afford Disney for one of them.
I'm also not a big fan of Vegas.
I also think some people don't get Disney because it just isn't their thing, but a lot of people don't get it because they have never gone as an adult, so all they know is expensive hotels, being dragged around in the heat, and long lines. When I read about Disney in trip advisor and people have negative reviews I can almost always point out HUGE mistakes they made that made the trip not work, Like not knowing how to use fastpass, not exploring all of the off the beaten path stuff, sleeping late and expecting to get on a lot of rides in the hottest, busiest part of the day, etc.
if you know what you're doing, Disney can be a great adult trip. I know several people who go to Disney World just to enjoy the resorts, dining, golf, spa, etc and don't even set foot in the parks.
Thanks for your thoughtful answer! I was really curious and you explained it perfectly. We are actually going to Disneyland in april. Out in Cali for a friends wedding. I hope I enjoy it and come come back converted. The more things you love in life the better right??

Re: Know what I can't stand
I don't begrudge adults who travel to Disney as a one or 2 time thing every couple of years just for kicks. I think what raised eyebrows was going 6 times as an adult (presuming this would entail a trip there almost every year, like some sort of annual 'family vacation').
And not for nothing, but I agree 100% that we are all entitled to our opinions and ALL of us here *ARE* judgmental (if we weren't, we wouldn't be posting our 2 cents on LIF sheesh ) Its not necessarily a bad thing, IMHO. I dont take negative comments on any of these LIF boards personally, and I certainly don't think less of anyone here if walking around with mouse ears floats their boat..
Granted, the last time I was in Disney was in 2004 and I only went there because (1) my best friend lived in Orlando and her wedding was scheduled there, and (2) we stayed at the Hard Rock hotel and our main attraction was Universal Studios and MGM Park, but only squeezed in Epcot and Magic Kingdom because we had 2 extra days to kill until our flight home. In retrospect, I dont think DH and I would choose Disney personally because I felt it was such a rip off (I know the "regulars" and DVC members get discounts and know the cheaper way to do things, but the basic admissions price for a park is at least $60-90 and we were just like considering that price doesnt include food, admission prices for rides, parking, souvenirs, etc. For the $$ they charge, its just not worth it to us..But to each their own..

Re: Know what I can't stand
I guess maybe I am childish, or weird, or living in a fantasy world because I still think it is NOT ok to judge people. I don't come to LIF for that purpose, though I guess some others do.
Mrs S. - Yep, rookie mistakes. I pay like $33 a day.
I'm wearing a Kermit shirt right now. Does that make me creepy? I volunteer with children. If I'm creepy, someone had better tell the church to keep me away from them. LOL

You are NOT weird, and far from childish-you are probably the most mature one in this conversation. If you want to see a weird contrast, re-read the OP and the comments in the "what a so-called frined said" post next to this one (which are well written, especially this part: "She was just VILE last night and I have a big mouth to say something, but I know it's not worth it and she will never realize that she was rude, wrong and cruel. She will just scream and yell at me that I'm taking it too seriously, to lighten up, etc. ... I don't want to be around someone who spews hatred and puts others down.") ..... Then re-read the comments you have gotten on here--and you'll see a very weird contrast. You are not weird.

You are wearing to business meeting are you? I once went to meet with a buyer for my company's 2nd biggest customer, and she was wearing a Muppets t-shirt. It wasn't Friday & it wasn't a surprise visit. I did think that was weird.
The "knowing how to Disney right" stuff doesn't really make a big difference to me. I don't avoid it because of the expense or the heat or the crowds. I am not big on amusement parks to start with. And I've never really been into Disney characters or movies.
But I love cruises & I know people hate them, or think they are for old people or for people who don't want to really experience another culture, but that is not true for me. We make the most of our days, seeing what we can, eating off the boat when we can, and it ix much more accessible than seeing all of these places individually.

Re: Know what I can't stand
I don't care where people go on vacation, how they live, blah blah, because you're not hurting me or anyone else.
However I may report this thread to be moved to the Travel & Vacations/all Disney all the time board.

If this was real message board software, I'd ask TPTB to make a Disney sub-forum under Travel and Vacations.
Interesting. This reminded me that I always thought that there should be a "runners" subforum from the "diet and fitness" board. I'm not a runner and I noticed that most of the posts there are about running!
