Re: L&d without lamaz
Didn't take birthing classes with either of my pregnancies. My sister teaches childbirth classes, so she gave us a crash-course lesson for maybe 30 minutes when I was pregnant with #1.
Honestly, I didn't think of anything she said while I was laboring with either child. My body (and mind) just did what it naturally wanted to do.
I know classes are really effective for some people, just not for me.

Re: L&d without lamaz
I never took a class. The nurse that helped me deliver told me I did a great job and that I should contact my lamaz coach. She was impressed when I said I never took a class. It all comes naturally..you will be fine

Re: L&d without lamaz
I took lamaz, but didn't think of class when I was going through labor. The nurses talked me through what to do, how to breathe while pushing etc.

Re: L&d without lamaz
I didn't take any classes, they didn't fit into our schedules.
I did watch the Laugh and Learn video that a pp mentioned and I found that helpful, I got it from my local library.

Re: L&d without lamaz
I took a L&D class and a parenting class. I did not use any of the breathing techniques that were taught. The L&D nurses help you along the way and tell you what to do. I just did what my body told me to do. Sometimes i felt like I needed to breath deeply, and other times I felt like short breaths were working better. For me, the classes taught me what to expect and what would happen when. I would recommend you get a DVD to watch. You will be fine!

Re: L&d without lamaz
I never took lamaz but the nurses told me how to breath and then how to push. You'll be ok without it.

Re: L&d without lamaz
I didn't take lamaze. I had no desire to. None. All I knew was I wanted the epi as soon as possible and I wanted to feel as LITTLE as possible. Period the end.
When I was ready to push the nurse said to me- ok did you take any lamaze or birthing classes? I said- Um, no. She goes- ok- here is how you push. And she proceed to explain it to me in under a minute.
That was all I needed. I feel like anything I had learned in a class like that would have only served to scare the shiz out of me and would have gone out the window in the heat of the moment.

Re: L&d without lamaz
I did not want to take classes - my doctor said it was totally fine as long as I was planning to get an epi and I was. It was totally fine - I don't think you need a class at all - your body's pretty smart!
