Ladies..PLEASE HELP ME---Newborn and Reflux Issues Question
Hi,
I just had my baby a week ago. In the hosptial they gave her Similac and she was having major regurgitation issues. She was constantly spitting up. I was told it may be nothing but mention it to the Pedetrician. When we came home from the hospital at my Peditricians sugestion we started her on Enfamil Lipil and the first two days she seemed to like it and was spitting up a lot less. ( I am also using Born Free Bottles), so after we went to the Ped on Wed we had no issues at that moment. Ever since we left, its back and bad. She is spitting up so much and even after she digests it 20 min later is spitting up. We are about to go back to the Dr in a few.
Who had/has this with their baby? What formula did they give for reflux issues? What suggestions? I am also nervous because on Wed she was down to 6lbs 14 oz from 7lbs 2 oz when we left the hospital. The poor baby is spitting out so much of what she eats. I am so upset and WORRIED right now.

Re: Ladies..PLEASE HELP ME---Newborn and Reflux Issues Question
there have been many recent posts on this on the parenting board. a search will probably be very helplful. DD has reflux and gastritis, plus colic (yippie!). Formula changes (I assume you are using formula from your post) and possibly medication can help children with reflux and allergies. It is important to find out what is really going on. Work with your Ped. and consider a referal to a GI specialist (takes weeks to get an appt. often). Some spitting up is normal, as I'm sure you know. Trust your mommy instincts!
With DD, she spit up often (with burps, an hour later, and often 2 hours later), would cry with burps and hiccups, would cry almost all the time (much less now and can't wait until it is over), had loud/smelly gas, would spit up digested formula/BM (looked curdled and/or mucousy), etc.

Re: Ladies..PLEASE HELP ME---Newborn and Reflux Issues Question
Hi.......my DD is 3 weeks and in the hospital they gave her Similac and she puked it up constantly....out of her nose, out of her mouth, it was gross!! I was breastfeeding but was not producing enough milk so I had to supplement with formula so we're using Enfamil Lipil Ready Made formula and although she spits up some it's not terrible. She's learned to handle her gas pains when she has them and we keep her sitting up for a little bit after she eats and that helps with the spit up. Not sure what Enfamil version you're using but I found with Emerson the powder mix caused havoc with her insides!! We switched her back to the Enfamil ready made and she's doing great. It takes a while for their system to adjust to the formula and the pediatrician said to not keep switching formula on them, especially at this age, because their digestive systems are very sensitive. Stick with the Enfamil for a while and see what happens and if you're not using the ready made try that, it might help. Good luck!!

Re: Ladies..PLEASE HELP ME---Newborn and Reflux Issues Question
I agree with Hofstra....I had this problem with my son...after waiting it out..and seeing that he was still having problems with the Silmac...we changed to a soy formula...which worked great....I kept a diary of when my son spit up and acted fussy after each bottle..it helped a lot when I went to the doctor...
