***LAST UPDATE (HCG NUMBERS)****Confusing first OBGYN Appintment

I'll try to keep this as short as possible...

If you all saw my first post here ever it was in late october because I missed my period and was confused... well it ended up coming 8 days late. SO I was supposed to get my period October 28th, instead I got it Nov.6th.

SOo, I figure ok for December Im supposed to get it around December 4th... I didnt get my period and I tested December 12th (8 days late) and I got 3 BFP's.

Yesterday was my first appointment and I was expecting to be around 5weeks 6days... so she asks me about all my dates and then figures I'm about right, Im supposed to be about 6 weeks.

We start the sonogram and NOTHING... I could tell she was worried... She kept that stick thing inside of me for a long time fishing around and she said, "hmm, im not seeing what Im supposed to be seeing for 6 weeks. But dont worry you just might be earlier than you think." ok....

Then she feels my uterus and says, "but it feels like a pregnant uterus"....

She takes my blood to see the pregnancy hormone levels.... I should get the results tomorrow (sat.).. she said that will give us a better idea of whats going on.

So now im just confused... why am I not 6 weeks? WHY?HOW would I even be "early" like around 3-4 weeks? Im scared that she was just trying to calm me and didnt tell me the full story... I might be sooo off but maybe I am supposed to be 6 weeks but the pregnancy is just not progressing?

Ok, what I ****** appt. I feel confused and sad...and the thing is ... we werent even planning on this baby at all and we calmed ourselves and got excited about the baby and now.... there might be no baby at all


***UPDATE***

Hi all, hope everything is well :)

I just wanted to update that I went to the doctor and she told me my HCG was 235.... I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THAT MEANS.. or if its good or bad... she said "it can still be a very early pregnancy" but she warned that if I have any bleeding or cramping to come in right away.

P.S. While I was there I took another blood test and she said the results should be in Monday/Tuesday and they should be at least doubled.

Can you ladies give any feedback on those numbers??

***FINAL UPDATE*** My doctor just called me back today and told me the blood test results.

Numbers went from 235 onthursday to 550 on saturday... she was happy about it and SO AM I. I literally had the biggest smile EVER on my face.. and my husband is soo relieved! :) Since we have establised that I am about 4-4.5 weeks...we agreed to wait till early January to make an appt. so we dont freak ourselves out again.

I wont be able to tell my parents, or make the call to his parents (they live in EGYPT) on Christmas like I had hope but thats ok!

Some of you might know that orthodox people celebrate Christmas on Jan.7 (aka "little christmas") so maybe I'll tell them then?

How long are your cycles? 28 days?

If your last cycle was late that generally means you O'd late - your LP (luteal phase) generally stays the same month to month. If you O late, that will delay AF.

However, if you O late, that will also delay when the embryo implants. SO let's say that you usually have 28 day cycles, but in October, your cycle was 36 days (+8). This time, you're expecting it to be 28 days again, but if it's 36 days, you might have O'd 7-8 days later than usual - and if the embryo implanted later, you could be measuring closer to 4 weeks than 6.

I would wait for your bloodwork to come back before freaking out.

People are prob getting bored of this answer bc I write this on everyones post when they say this...

I went to the doctor thinking i was 7w3days...according to my LMP that is what I would be. Went to the dr...they say nothing and said I was measuring 2 weeks before what I thought (5w3d) I was so confused! They sent me for bloodwork and the secretary calls me 3 days later and says..'the dr wants to see you' So of course she had no other info and i freaked out and cried myself to sleep. Went to the dr the next day(so 6 days after my first appt) and there was a HB and I was measuring 7w3d. How I skipped a week in between I will never know but i went from 5w3d to 7w3d in 6 days!

Don't give up! I went through the same thing!

I have 30 day cycles and usually O very late....around CD19 or CD20. I knew exactly how far along I was when I went to the dr., but because they go by your LMP, they had my due date a full week early. I even told the dr. that was not the case and they wouldnt change it until the u/s proved me right. Maybe you ovulate later in your cycle as well.

It is hard to tell from one number. What will matter is that the next one is doubled. You absolutely can be too early to see anything, which is why most OBs won't see you until about 8 weeks after your LMP. I went what I thought was 7 weeks, and I measured 6 weeks 3 days. Good luck!

With those beta numbers you shouldn't see anything yet so don't worry. I believe you can't even see a yolk sac until the beta reaches either 1000 or 3000.....I can't remember. Those numbers sound like you must have oed much later and are more then likely only about 4wks or so. When I had my betas they were about that at 4-4.5wks. The important thing now is that they double every 36-48hrs. Try to relax. It just sounds like your cycle has been a bit weird the last 2 months and your dates are off

thanks for responding... i guess i have to wait till monday/tuesday for the numbers.

i just wish i knew when i O'd so i can know exactly where im at... right now ill just hope "its a very early pregnancy" like the doctor was saying.

did she find a sac in the us?
i thought i was 6 weeks but when i first went she couldn't find a fetal pole-just a sac which she thought was irregular shaped. send me home with the same thing-call if bleeding or cramping. did the blood test it went up but still bc of my dating we were worried. the next time i went back (which was the LONGeSt & most depressing week) the sac had changed shape and there was the fp & heart beat,. I always su cked at keepig my dates right sooooo it was just too early to see anything. I am now 15weeks

With that beta hcg number, you are earlier than you think. With a beta that low you will not see anything on a sono. Most OB's will not even see you until you are around 8 weeks pregnant just for that reason. Because by 8 weeks, even if you are a week or so earlier they will still see something on the sono.

I'd say you are probably closer to the 4.5/5 week mark. Much to early to see anything on a sono.

It sounds to me like you just ovulated late and are much earlier than you thought. I think my first beta number was like that too and you couldn't see anything on the u/s other than a thickening endometrium, which is consistent with very early pregnancy - no sack, no pole, nothing else so you shouldn't worry yet. If the numbers keep going up, you should be able to see something at your next u/s.

Thanks ladies... I have to try and be optimistic as you all and just hope I O'ed late and Im just earlier than I thought.

I had sono at what I KNEW was 6 weeks...we were not trying and only had one 'oops' moments. I was suppose to o three days later which would make my first appt at 6 weeks. There was nothing. I went a week later and perfectly healthy heartbeat! Unfortuntely it is a wait and see game and an awfully long 'wait' period when you are going through it...but you still have a great chance, so stay positive!!!
