It's like Ritalin sponsering Chuck E. Cheese, or vice versa. I find this partnership quite shady. It's like "Watch my show/Buy my books, products, etc. and, if you end up with diabetes, buy the medication I endorse."
I think it's this point that make people due a side eye. Partnering up with the drug company is what I have an issue with. No surprise that she has diabetes and honestly keeping it to herself I have no issue with at all. It's the "I'm coming out yall. I have diabetes and I recommend you get this drug I'm endorsing" that's really F'ed up.

I agree with all of this. I don't watch her show - or anything on Food Network. I rarely ever cook at all (last night my DD actually asked me why I was cooking. She truly did not understand ), but it is definitely shady.. or at least, to me, CRAZY to turn around and endorse a drug company instead of putting her energy into making healthier food.
But I come from a family of diabetics who I also think are crazy because they are insulin-dependent and yet do very little to alter their diet and make healthier food choices.

Tony
I had no idea about this whole Paula Deen diabetes thing...and I dont' really care either. she's a nice grandmotherly type who make major butter heavy dishes. lots of people who spent their whole lives eating the way she did end up with diabetes.
basically it seems she kept with her bread and butter (pardon the pun) niche that she was famous for, but was offered a way to parlay her illness into a second coming. savvy business mind that got her this far is what it looks like to me.
if her show can get obese people to get on medication and slim her recipes down, I think she's a good spokesperson.
I still love tony.

“Thinking of getting into the leg-breaking business, so I can profitably sell crutches later,” he wrote.
I think this is funny, sad but funny. He got his point accross.
I hope Paula would come out with some healthy/healthier recipes.

Re: Let's discuss: Chef Anthony Bourdain calls Paula Deen "most dangerous person to America" ( not celeb-related, more weight related)
I thought it was hilarious when I heard it, and I still do. Bourdain is right on target. Deen is hypocritical to be taking money for diabetes meds while pushing the sort of foods she does and hiding the fact that she herself has diabetes.
Maybe now she will openly discuss how she came to be diabetic - eating fatty foods for a start - then incorporate healthier foods into her repertoire. We all love rich foods once in a while so there is a place for those; but under the circumstances, I think she should rise to the occasion, claim the high ground and begin showing everyone how to make healthier foods.
Think of the opportunities Bourdain has just opened for her. She could put out a line of cookbooks suitable for diabetics - and probably will now that she's been outed, create a new show featuring her new foods, appear on talk shows and tour the lecture circuits. Ka-ching, ka-ching!

Re: Let's discuss: Chef Anthony Bourdain calls Paula Deen "most dangerous person to America" ( not celeb-related, more weight related)
I like watching Paula for entertainment purposes. Every show on the food network has a "theme." Cooking in thirty minutes, soul food, healthy food, ten bucks meals etc. If Paula were to change her food/style, it wouldn't work IMO because this is her niche. She is an entertainer and cook, not a dietician and I don't think she's ever declared herself as such.
I actually don't think any of her food sounds/looks good and I can't imagine anyone thinking it's a good idea to cook like that every day. It's more like a try it once on a special occasion kind of thing - like going to a fair and eating a deep fried twinkie.
That being said, I love Bourdain as well because of HIS rough around the edges personality. he is the anti food network chef and so it doesn't surprise me when he makes these comments. It actually make me laugh when he takes digs at rachael ray on his show

So many of you said, "Of course you can't eat like that everyday", but I really think there are people who do & people who blindly follow what is on tv.
I think the only recipe of hers I use is a pork marinade, but I kinda want to make deep fried stuffing on s stick! Just once. I love Anthony Bourdain, but I don't drink the way he does on his show either!

I think he's an idiot and this is him saying "look at me look at me!".
But in her today show interview she claims she's "always" tells people it's about moderation. I've seen her show and I don't recall her ever saying "only in moderation."
I don't think she's the worst person in America, I decide what I will eat or won't eat.

Said the chef who specializes in French cooking.
No one eats this every day, or every week for that matter. He needs to calm down.

Insert "alchoholic" before the word chef. All he does on his shows is drink and find remedies for his hangover.
And a by the way - a person can get diabetes from consuming too much alchohol.

You are an idiot if you think you can make her food every night and its ok. . .you deserve whatever happens to you.
However, if your family is coming over for Thanksgiving and you want to make mac and cheese that is AMAZING and uses 4lbs of butter. . .she is your girl . . .I love her food but I don't eat it every day and to blame her for people being fat or diabetic is insane.
Still better than fast food IMO!
AMEN!
Is her food good? HELLZ yeah it is! Would you WANT to eat it? Umm Double yeah Should you eat it in large portions as often as possible? Umm probably not
Who cares? So are we going to say Emeril is a ***** worshiper because he likes pasta? Is Jacque Torres a peddler of diabietes with his chocolate concoctions?
What ever happend to self control and moderation? So he doesn't like her food, so what?
Makes me want to go put on her Tshirt I got when I visited her restuarant in Savannah. haha I've been to HIS restaurant in NYC and I would loathe to ever go there again. I hated the food and walked out starving but grateful it was on someone else's dime. (ETA: I couldn't wait to go, hubby and I love his show, but the food was horrible such a let down)
ETA: not that i matters but she's done some healthy options too. Just easy to hang your hat on her other stuff (cause its good and we want it). The Biggest Loser chic sounds like she's joining the band wagon. I mean Paula's not the ONLY cook out there with heavy butter. Speaking of Emeril his Garlicky Clams & Mussels Pasta calls for an entire stick of butter for one pound of pasta.

that's a good point as well. and there are plenty of references to drugs and getting high. You can argue that that is irresponsible as well.

To me, I see a smart savvy business woman.
She never claimed to be educating anyone on healthy eating.
She herself has diabetes as a result of bad diet, so in a way she IS keeping it real

I understand that and I am a fan of his and watch the show but he doesn't talk about drugs in an negative way but in a way that makes drugs sound like fun IMO. for example, he had weed pizza one time and it was like a big joke. He often talks about other drugs and trips too.
My point was, one can argue that he is accusing Paula of being "dangerous" while he is not really one to push a healthy lifestyle with all the drinking and smoking/drugs he does.

Re: Let's discuss: Chef Anthony Bourdain calls Paula Deen "most dangerous person to America" ( not celeb-related, more weight related)
i think she has lots of great recipes, however, they are not recipes that I would make every day, only in moderation. As like a treat every once in a blue moon. However, I think it would benefit her and her audience to modify some of her recipes and show how the same recipes can still taste great if you do have diabetes
