Re: Letting DH charge your parents?

Rob has accepted money from his parents. He didn't charge them - but they offered because they felt it was the right thing to do.

Now.. he's an electrician and he certainly would never accept the union rate for his work - but it makes them feel good to offer him $50 dollars after he spends 8 hours sweating his nuts off in their crawlspace and that's just fine. It keeps him from feeling too taken advantage of.

When my mother was alive she always tried to offer him $$ for work, but since she did so much for us - babysat, bought us dinner, bought us groceries, etc.. we could NEVER accept a dime.

Re: Letting DH charge your parents?

My DH is a contractor and just did some work for my parents. They insisted on paying him b/c he was doing that instead of working for a "real" customer. He charged them like 1/10th what he would charge someone else, and everyone was happy. My parents wouldn't want him to work for a week for nothing- they know we have a mortgage. He does plenty of little things for them all year long, and they don't pay him for that, nor do we expect them to.

my first reaction was "no", until I read that he skips other jobs to do this work for your folks. so I say yes, let them pay.

No - I wouldn't let them pay us.

If we really needed the money - as in - electric was being shut off tomorrow - then I would accept. I mean, we'd really, really have to need that money to survive.

Re: Letting DH charge your parents?

If I needed the money yes I would ask them to pay, and they would be happy to. If I did not need to money, then I would not ask for it bc they have always been generous with us it would be just wierd to ask them for money.

However...if I needed money and was really stuck I am fortunate to have parents that would be able and happy to help.
