Levitt home owners...question/washing machine related.
Currently our washing machine is in our kitchen and the dryer is in the den/computer room.
We'd like to move the washer into the den. Has anyone done this in a levittown house? Who did you use and can you give me an estimate, please?
TIA
Sarah

Re: Levitt home owners...question/washing machine related.
Do you have a cape or a ranch?
We use to have our washer in the kitchen and our dryer in the garage. We have a cape with an attached garage.
We built a closet into the garage with the doors opening into the kitchen, and bought a stackable washer and dryer and moved everything into the closet.
We had our contractor do all the work and our electrician do all the wiring.
My neighbor is currently moving his washer and dryer out of his downstairs bathroom and putting them into the back bedroom. He is going to build a closet around them.
He is doing the work himself. He is a carpenter.

Re: Levitt home owners...question/washing machine related.
We have a ranch.
My Dh's grandfather is a plumber, retired. He told DH that he could "talk" BIL through it. This was when we moved in, Nov 2007 and I vetoed that. BIL was a carpenter and is very handy but I feel like plumbing is something you can't mess around with.
Can you send me the name of your contractor?
Thanks for responding.

Re: Levitt home owners...question/washing machine related.
There is NO den in the Levitts ranch houses. Do you have an extension? Do you have a converted garage? Are you talking about one of the 2 bedrooms downstairs? Is your house dormered?
We had our washer and dryer in the garage. We created a room in the back of it but the pipe froze 3 years ago with a bad ice storm. The rest of the garage was not insulated properly (we did not know!) and the pipe froze in that section and busted. We transfered the washer and dryer in the bedroom upstairs when the chimney comes through (the bedroom on top of the kitchen). It was not too much to do. We had an electrician doing the electrical/vent for the dryer and washer. Then a plumber ran a line for the water. I think it was only $800 or so to do all the work.
