Heres the article: LaGuardia like a "third world country"
LGA is not the nicest airport, I prefer to avoid it at all costs but I think saying someone would think they were in a third world country in a little extreme.

i get what he is saying - the airport makes so much money you think they would invest in making it not look like you stepped off into times square circa 1982. Honestly wish they would update the subways to make them modernized as well as penn station (which is not happening thanks to MSG.)

Has he been to LAX recently ? Not much better......
Fork over some Fed money then to revamp the airport, instead of having NY taxpayers do it.

yeah ive been to some rather cruddy airports in my time. Not saying LGA is fancy. yes it is however in what I still consider one of the best cities in the world, but why isn't the Fed helping out? Isn't it FAA or something?
still I think ummm well I think he could have wording it a bit differently, shall we say?

How ridiculous. I've been in an airport without WALLS. Like I could reach out from my table in the food court and touch the nose of an airplane. I don't mind LGA. They have PacMan machines- bring on the 80s.

They are doing work at LGA. The Delta Terminal and USAir have both had work done. The main terminal is slated to get redone. I know bids were collected but have no idea when it is supposed to start.

please you're telling me that anyone here actually thinks LGA is a world class top notch airport?
any one of us could be in a conversation with a friend and make the same comment about LGA and it would be funny - because its true!

Re: LGA is a 3rd world country? wow..
It's a shltty airport and I'm embarassed for NYC when tourists fly into it. It's a dump compared to many of the other airports I've been to...definitely better than the one I was at in Bangladesh, though!
But when the fares are cheaper there, that's where I'll go.
I don't really care what Biden said. Maybe this will put a fire under their asses to improve things at a faster rate? I've lived in Queens my whole life and I feel like parts of that airport are always under construction.

ITA. Laguardia is my last resort but, it's usually where I end up because of prices.
I feel that the central terminal wasn't built to handle the amount of volume it now handles. I usually fly out of the gates with Spirit, Southwest, etc and it's always so mobbed since the carriers are trying to maximize their gate space.
I think the Delta/USAir terminals are pretty nice though - they are more spacious and comfortable.

No, that's actually not what I said.
I just meant that it is all a matter of perspective. Yes it may be ****** compared to HK (I assume, never been there) but there are airports that don't have things like AC (or walls as someone pointed out above !)
He is right that it needs help & NYC should have a better airport, but someone from an actual 3rd world country would probably disagree.

Re: LGA is a 3rd world country? wow..
I agree w/ Biden and its sad that it has to be Vice Prez to say this in order for this to get attention. The fact is our country's infracstructure is decaying. Yea I understand that NYC's airports were built 40-50 years ago but theres no excuse for LGA to still be in the dark ages when it comes to upgrading its internal security and adding some comforts for passengers (like more eatery options for the Departure area!?! ).
And its not like Biden comes from a completely privileged background - he took Amtrak to DC for 25+ yrs when he served as Senator. He needs to stop talking about how crappy LGA and put his money where his mouth is. What he said is what many of us NY'ers think and its a complete shame that the first thing Europeans and other travellers see when they land in the Great City of New York is a crappy airport.

The airport is dated BUT a third world country it is not. I have been to airports that have no AC and no walls-- give me a break!

Have you ever been to Punta Cana's airport in DR? Its just a couple of huts and runway.
And this is the nice touristy area of DR.

I dunno, I've been to a bunch of domestic airports. Everything from Orlando, to Colombus OH, to Syracuse NY. I'd honestly say that LGA was the crappyest of them. the only one that I might consider below LGA is Syracuse, but that is mainly due to the lack of food, it is still nicer than LGA. For it being the go-to airport for domestic flights out of the largest east coast city is crazy, that's just the inside, the outside is a warzone

Re: LGA is a 3rd world country? wow..
Surprised he even knows what the airport looks like since he has a private plane...lol. LGA is run down and is not a fabulous airport but I have been in much worse. It is fine to just go sit at the gate, and depart. I don't need a ton of restaurants, I just want to get safely to my destination. But I noticed some commented that it is horrible for international travels to see it, but (and I might be wrong) isn't it only domestic flights? So international travels go through JFK or Newark. Most don't bother with LGA unless they stay in NY first then travel elsewhere in the US. Most international travelers will be going through JFK.

LGA doesn't bother me. I like that I can park on the 4th floor of terminal b and not go outside to get into the terminal. I honestly like it better than JFK's 5 mile hike to get a gate. I am not a fan of the new delta terminal at LGA - I don't understand why they put the restaurant in the MIDDLE of the floor so that if you have multiple gates boarding at once it's like herding cattle. What a lot of people forget is that LGA was never meant to support today's world (same as LI parkways) and honestly I dont know how they expand it to do that now. The runways can not handle more traffic and revamping the buildings would need to be supported by additional flights. Could it stand updating -- certainly -- but I think it does the job that it was built to do.

Re: LGA is a 3rd world country? wow..
I guess I am in the minority but I like it and would rather fly from there. It is also easier to get someone to pick me up from there or drop me off than from JFK.
ETA: I fly Delta from LGA so maybe that makes a difference?
