I find my local facebook groups much more helpful. And while I used LIW for my wedding planning, I will tell you that there were several vendors that did not live up to the hype. Unfortunately since you were not allowed to post negative comments because many were paid advertisers, you never knew when you were going to get a "lemon." Could be an attributing cause to the downfall of the board.
this was happening alot during 2014/2015 on LIW. we ended up branching out on FB with a 2015 brides fb group, there was a 2016 brides fb group. when people posted negative reviews on LIW they were sometimes deleted or edited.
Yes!!! I also messaged another bride about feedback regarding a photographer and then the photographer reached out to me saying he heard I was cancelling our apt and what he can do to fix it. I was creeped out and never went back on LIF, nor did I use that vendor!

We used Patken for photo/video and Pedestals for flowers. Had a good experience with both! ??

We used Silverfox for photography and video. We also used after hours for a DJ back in 2009. Both vendors were good

I hated the knot when I was planning. The content was completely irrelevant to anyone having a wedding in this part of the country.
I wonder why LIW went down the tubes? Are people not getting married anymore?
They probably make 400 different facebook groups to discuss each aspect of it. People seem to like that better than having everything in one place like on a message board. Why, is beyond me. I can't stand facebook groups.
I cannot wrap my head around having strangers know your full name, where you live, work, etc. Why would you want these people to know so much about you? It’s so bizarre to me.
I was in a private facebook group for 2012 brides before my wedding. Someone in the group contacted my video guy after I complained in the private group that my video was not ready. He called me in and told me he heard I was slandering him on the internet and had me sign something saying I would not speak of him again. I left the group after that. I much prefer the anonymity of message boards.
That is mental. When I wrote my wedding review back in 2007 I gave a slightly negative review for my Day of Coordinator. (Which, btw, was the biggest waste of money EVER!!) The powers that be contacted me and told me to take it down.

I had met with a photographer who told me he had left another photography studio to do his own thing. He only mentioned it when I said to my DH that his pics looked similar to the other studio. He then commented that the other studio was still using his work in advertising and he was unable to force them to remove it given it was done when he was their employee. I posted that story on LIW in response to something..I can't remember why now. I got a FM a few days later telling me their lawyers strongly advised me to take it down. I'm a lawyer too so I wasn't intimidated by that and I said so but I also said that I wasn't going to give myself a headache over a wedding photographer.

Re: LI Weddings
All the sites have issues with reviews being pulled. Even some people who run Facebook groups don't allow negative reviews. If you look to some wedding sites, there are no bad vendor reviews. It used to be that Yelp wasn't reliable but they faced some issues in court for trying to coerce people to advertise, by promising to boost their favorable reviews. Vendors who didn't pay had negative reviews boosted. The site has changed. Now if you look at all reviews of a vendor on Yelp, you get a pretty good picture. You just have to look at both the top ones and the "not recommended" ones. I think it's harder now to bond with people who are in the same planning phase as you are.

I absolutely loved my videographer Frank Ahn. He specializes in the cinematography style of AJ Ingoglia (who wasn't available on my date).
I used Pedestals in NHP and they were amazing.
Bravura were my DJs and they were great as well.
I hated my photographer unfortunately, so no recommendation there.

I think it went away because you had no freedom. Negative reviews were removed and you were bashed if you disagreed with anyone. God forbid someone’s third cousins second wife neighbors uncles daughter had a great experience with vendor xyz who dare you say you didn’t.
