Re: life changing books
Well there are a few books that helped shape me into the person I am:
When I was young the Magician's Nephew connected me to creation and gave me a longing for God in my life.
Marianne Williamson's Illuminata is lovely and powerful.
The Dhammapada contained so many wisdoms that just struck me over and over again with truths that I'd forgotten/didn't realize.
But as 'self help' goes, I give it to Martha Beck. Steering By Starlight is a wonderful tool with a lot of exercises to help connect the teaching to real time practice. Beware.. you may wind up quitting your job by the end of the book!

The only "life Changing" book I have ever read was "The Five People You Meet in Heaven"
I loved the message and it makes me remember that while I may not remember you you may always remember me.

I remember reading The Celestine Prophecy about 12 years ago when my life was in shambles and it REALLY centered me
I still think about that book too - in particular the parts about energy and how people give & take it. The different types of people and how to understand and deal with them... pretty interesting stuff. I realized a lot about myself and how I was treating people. It was a wake-up call for me.

Re: life changing books
I went thru a bad divorce and found "the secret" to be comforting at the time.
I guess it depends on what you are looking for...but for me, that book worked. Got me out a funk and refocused negative thoughts into positive ones. Did it heal me? No, but gave me a new perspective on things/thoughts that I didn't have before.

Re: life changing books
I read this book, Wonder by Rachel Vail in 6th grade.
It about a girl who sat alone at lunch, her friends abandoned her and dealt with teasing and bullying. I felt like she was living my life. I think I read it over and over again for 3 years straight.
I have to see if my mom still has my old books because I would probably read it again. It's obviously a pre-teen book but the impact it had on my life was amazing. I used to wish I could be the main character because she was so strong.

Re: life changing books
One of my go-to book, (which reminds me, I should re-read again) is The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo. It's a novel with a lesson. I know many pp said - The Secret, which I never read, but watched the dvd. It did help change my outlook on many things and helped to change my way of thinking for a while - again, I think I need a refresher. Another pp said The Shack, which I remember being moved after I read it, but now I want to read it again.

Re: life changing books
the secret is the only one i could put in this category
it really forced me to change my thoughts from negative to positive..
so instead of saying "i hope it doesn't rain" i say "it will be sunny"
it's subtle though...

Re: life changing books
Go Ask Alice. I read it every so often but in my teen years it really hit home.
I would have to say Lord of the Rings too because it was the first book I went back and read for leisure and it really made me realize how much I love reading again!
