What is the rule for this. I am almost 4 weeks now can I life heavy things or is there a limit? I ask because my job sometimes requires this of me.

Re: Lifting heavy things
I wouldn't lift anything over 10lbs... or strain in any way.. That's my rule of thumb.
However.. you might want to get others opinions on this as well because I know I'm overly cautious and a bit crazy!!

Re: Lifting heavy things
I would say it's important for any point in pregnancy. The baby may be the size of a seed right now, but there's a lot going on in there.

I think if you are really unsure...you should be asking your doctor. I understand you might not have had (or maybe you did) your 1st appt...but I would call the doctors office and get there opinion on it.
Just because we can tell you what we would do or not do...doesn't mean it is right or wrong for you...your doctor does
Good Luck...let us know what the doctor says

Re: Lifting heavy things
Lifting anything you are typically accustomed to lifting is perfectly fine, at any point in the pregnancy. Lifting anything heavy is never a concern as far as the baby's safety. The only issue is later on in pregnancy, as your stomach grows and the weight has a more forward pull on your body, you could injure your back if you do not lift correctly. Just remember to always bend at your knees and lift with your legs mainly and you will be fine (assuming a normal pregnancy, with mo complications, in which your doctor may advise you otherwise).

Re: Lifting heavy things
The only heavy things I pick up are my nieces. My Dr and I discussed nothing over 50lbs, and I am carrying triplets. But then again, in my daily life I tend to carry heavy things.

Re: Lifting heavy things
I was told that pregnant women are told no heavy lifting, because traditionally women don't do heavy lifting normally. If you normally lift heavier items then doing what you normally do is ok. Obviously check with your Dr.
I have been doing what I feel comfortable with and what ever my spouse doesn't freak out about.

Exactly. I lift and carry my 27/28lb daughter multiple times a day, every day.

ditto. my cat is 12 lbs and my nephews are 20 - no issue lifting any of them IMO

Re: Lifting heavy things
Congrats on your pregnancy! I remember you from TTC!!
I carry a laptop around the city and sometimes I travel to 2-3 clients a day and my bag is super heavy. I told my doctor that I have some days where I am lugging this bag all over the place and he said it was fine!

this is a great way of putting it..
bec I am lifting my DD who is 40 lbs and my DD who is 30 lbs...many times a day...unless I am put on bedrest..I dont see that happening anytime soon!
after the baby is born..at least from what I remember with me and my C/S - I think they say dont lift anything heavier than your baby!

Re: Lifting heavy things
I carry a 12ft ladder around most of the day & lift at least 40 lbs at work. But it is really exhausting. Sitting for 1 hour at lunch time out of 9hours really isn't enough! Tired just thinking about it
