LONG - Major design help needed - what would you do with this room?

Where the orange couches are? What direction would you go in?

External Image

It connects to our LR. Those orange couches are getting re-upholstered and will be moved into the LR - under the bay/bow window (I always get them confused). Where the big couch is now:

External Image

Then we will get a new couch to replace this one (the tan couches are hand-me-downs):

External Image

AND - a wing chair will be to the left of the FP, so we will have enough seating in the LR. It will be a casual elegant room. Think striped fabric, paisley or solid fabric (both on the orange couches, I'm going to do the striped fabric on the backs of them and the paisley or solid fabric on the front where you sit), and brown or taupe fabric for the regular couch and wing chair (the wing chair will have a pillow to match the orange couch fabric).

External Image

Sooooooo - what would you make that little area? Please help me. Please. Another sitting area? Would you put like a buffet piece in there? Someone give me something.... Chat Icon Please. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: LONG - Major design help needed - what would you do with this room?

what if we did a corner cabinet to the left of the window? and then to the right of the window a chaise of some sort - caddy cornered to stick out into the space a bit?

Like this chaise:

And something like this corner cabinet:

External Image

OR - if we do the wing chair in the LR, I wanted to get like a seagrass ottoman like this guy:

External Image

So should I go in like a seagrass direction?

Re: LONG - Major design help needed - what would you do with this room?

Wow - thanks!!!!

I wish I could take credit for the stripes but we had the painter do it (we were living with my ILs while the house was getting done so it was faster to hire someone to paint the house).

The color is Sherwin Williams Sands of Time in a matte finish, the stripe is the same color in high gloss.

External Image

My bro did his own stripes and he said it was a pain in the butt to tape it out, but once it was taped out - he said it was smooth sailing after that.

I know a bunch of ladies on here did their own stripes - maybe they can help? Chat Icon

I like the chaise, or maybe you can put a bookcase an dmake it a tiny library space, since it sounds like your going traditional in there

I like this idea.
Or some type of computer armoire to make it a small office space.

ETA: Gorgeous room!

A window seat for more storage - OR an office nook?

Re: LONG - Major design help needed - what would you do with this room?

I really like a reading room idea, but do you want something like that or do you need something like that?

I reading love that kind of area in a home. A little get away place. Just to sit and rest or read or whatever.

OK, so the wall color is staying and you are getting the orange couches redone. Sounds like you will have other textures in the room with the new fabric for the orange couches. I'm hearing traditional, so I would stick with that. I love the chaise you picked. One thing I will say about the seagrass ottomans would be they aren't as comfy as other ottomans would be. So if you are looking for a really comfy area to sit, you might want to stick with a fabric instead. Just a thought to think about before you spend the money and you might not love it in the end. What colors are going to be in the LR? Accent colors?

I love the reading nook idea! I vote some sort of bookshelf and maybe a highback chair with a comfy matching ottoman.

Re: LONG - Major design help needed - what would you do with this room?

thanks everyone!

I played around with the furniture we DID have and came up with a game plan... I will post pics in a minute.

Initially I was going to make it a library area but we made our office upstairs into an office/library.

I will post pics in a few...

I would give that space its own identity. What are you into?

- wine "room" - wine buffet against the back wall with comfy bestro "tasting" set in front of it

- game/library area - shelving flanking the window a convertable game table a comfy chair or chaise

What is the room next to it?

Re: LONG - Major design help needed - what would you do with this room?

I think I've already figured out what I want to do with it - while I would like to give the room it's own identity like Fran suggested - I'm just too chicken. So what I've done is just made it an extension of the LR.

OK - the orange couch will be there - re-upholstered of course. The laundry basket is a leather tufted ottoman with nailhead trim. The caddy cornered table is a tall corner cabinet. The TV table with wedding towel cake is a long slim buffet. The basket with the plate in it stays.

External Image

The white chair is my dining chair - really gonna be a wing chair. The white step stool in front of it is really a seagrass ottoman.

External Image

These are just to show you where couches will be:

Now for fabrics:

Couches will be solid, wing chair will be stripe:

External Image

Orange couch will have striped fabric on the back and ornate pattern on the front:

Soooooooooo - what do you think?

Re: LONG - Major design help needed - what would you do with this room?

please just tell me... you are KEEPING the walls and all right?? Those are georgous!! don't get rid of that.

I think you need some rich color thrown in there. Try not to go all beige and brown. A little pop of color is nice. I love all your ideas that you posted too. Just throw a color in the mix.

Re: LONG - Major design help needed - what would you do with this room?

Yeah it's a great idea but a lot of beige, since you have an open floor plan you may want to tie in the colors of your kitchen or dining with that room. If your kitchen is yellow bring some yellow in etc...

Re: LONG - Major design help needed - what would you do with this room?

Jenn I love all your ideas (love your props too Chat Icon ). The fabrics are gorgeous.Chat Icon I would get a pop of color in that whole room though. What about the color from the kitchen. It's a burnt orange kind of color right? Some pillows, candles, throw, & vase. Or if you want to go more cool, you could add a slate blue color in this whole area. And the slate blue would still go with the colors in your kitchen. Chat Icon
