LOTS of questions today!!! Jordan not doing well again - what do you think?
In the past few days, Jordan has not been doing great again - sleeping better at night again now, but much more crankier during the day, out of sorts, lots of crying, doesn't want to take bottle half the time, etc. Also, I've noticed a little bit of touching his right ear, but not a lot. We are still up in NY, so IDK if it's just the new different, schedule, weather and environment changes, more tummy issues (maybe he needs a dosage tuning), or if he does have an ear infection. I do know that he is very over-tired - I can tell. Here's the deal - DH's insurance does not cover out of state doctors so I can go sit in the ER with him for the rest of the day and pay an ER co-pay to see if he does have an ear infection, or I can take him to the ped on Sunday (we're flying back Sat night and they do have a Sunday office.) He has a GI appt on Monday so I will discuss any possible tummy issues then. Just don't want a possible ear infection to get worse but again, not sure that's what it is with all the other changes in the past week.
Thanks for any advice!

this may be a dumb question, but if it is an ear infection, won't the pressure from the plane hurt him while you fly? I honestly don't know the answer to that question, but if it is a yes, then I'd take him in while your in NY.

He may be teething. DS pulls his ear when he teeths. Did you try Tylenol? That may help. Are his gums a little puffy?
DS (knock on wood) never had an ear infection, but I did hear they can get a fever too. I once thought it was an ear infection b/c he was pulling his ear and the Ped said he's perfectly fine. Just teething related.

The only thing I can suggest is PM pediatrics tonight! I think they open at 4 or 5 and close at 12AM call and see if they would take your insurance. MUCH better then an ER

How about a place like First Med? I think you only have to pay $50, and it will be less of wait/headache than the ER?
Not sure if they have a place like that for pediatrics specifically. Try Googling to find one in your area. Good luck and hope he feels better!

Where is PM Pediatrics?
Maybe I'll leave a message for the ped and see what he thinks.
He has starting arching a bit again so I'm wondering if he grew out of his zantac dosage.
I don't know if it's different for babies, but I had an ear infection once and was set to fly and spoke to my doctor and she told me that the change in pressure would actually make my ears feel better.
I do have infant tylenol with me, just didn't want to start needlessly dosing him.
He's just three months - not sure if he's teething yet - haven't looked at him gums - I would be able to tell if they were swollen?

Mercy hospital in RVC has virtually no wait if you go that route.
MIKI...IF he DOES have an ear infection GO TO THE DOCTOR. you do not want him to fly with that. I had a sinus infection that caused major ear issues and when I flew, I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO die when I was landing Well, not that dramatic...but it WAS painful.

Thanks ladies. Dawn, just saw you added a link - no where near us There is a walk-in clinic about 20 minutes away, but I don't know how they are in terms of pediatrics, esp an infant.

I've actually felt like I'm getting an ear infection for the past two days. It's always when we come back to NY and the heat's on -I get congested and pressure in my ears

aww sorry! Not sure where you are staying. I had to take Bry to the Syosset location on Christmas Day a few years ago and they were fantastic!
I can't think of anywhere else besides a regular walk in clinic or the ER
Hope you both feel better soon.

I agree, u do not want to fly with him if it is an ear infection..I would check out some of these places posters recommended...I know they just built a walk in clinic on LB road in Oceanside, but not sure if it's open or not yet, and not sure if they have peds there!!

Re: LOTS of questions today!!! Jordan not doing well again - what do you think?
I would go to PM Pediatrics. There is one in Syossett and a lot better than the ER. As far as the fee, I believe it's 100 bucks or 150 for those w/out insurance. I know this because the last time I went, I forgot my insurance card.
If DS does have an ear infection, the last thing you want to do is have him fly. He will scream the entire plane ride. It's very painful and kind of dangerous to fly with an ear infection.

Is it possible that it is allergies? I am miserable this time of year in NY but we don't have the same foliage in Florida. Can you call the ped and ask them? I just thought of it when you said you weren't feeling well.

Some walgreens and cvs have take care clinics that are run by NP. Maybe you can take him to one of them to get checked out.

Re: LOTS of questions today!!! Jordan not doing well again - what do you think?
Mik -
I know it is out of your way for PM Pediatrics, but see if you can take him somewhere. The girls both have ear infections (as did I), the pediatrician's office said there are a number of ear infections going around. Better to be safe than sorry.
And my girlfriend flew with her son before he was a year old with an ear infection (she had no idea) and his eardrum burst. It did some damage to his ear and there went their vacation down the toilet. I always check for ear infections before a flight now.
Oh, Julianne has been refusing her bottles for the past week and we figured she was teething. Thankfully we found the ear infection and sore throat and she's feeling a little better but the bottles are still a stretch

Re: LOTS of questions today!!! Jordan not doing well again - what do you think?
How old is DS? Could it be teething?
There are ear pain OTC drops - you might want to check out the pharmacy.
My insurance charges $100 for an ER visit but only my regular $25 co-pay for an urgent care facility - maybe look into one of those?
Hope DS feels better soon. You might want to get it checked out while you are up there if it is an ear infection maybe he shouldn't be flying!
