Re: Maple Syrup
After one year but I still gave the "fake" Aunt Jemima kind. I was too worried about the real one being like honey in the botulism sense. And even though honey is generally ok after one year, I didnt feel ok with that still.

Re: Maple Syrup
he's a year and hardly gets it. but I do occasionally give a tiny sprinkle of the real stuff. no wannabe's here
but really and truly, he doesn't "need" it. he's been eating waffles, pancakes, and french toast from about 6 months without it. I always serve it with fresh fruit and that gives just the right amount of moisture and natural sugar.
when I do give it, it's just for kicks...or b/c he's watching me pour it all over mine
ETA: maple syrup is boiled and boiled and boiled again. there is really no reason at all to worry about botulism. it's not like honey in any sense!

Re: Maple Syrup
I was worried it it too, but I think I gave it to DS twice, the first time was maybe a month ago? I usually give him organic jelly with pancakes but I only had syrup. I dont think you have to worry!

Re: Maple Syrup
and actually, corn syrup is more of a red flag (and that is what is used to make the fake stuff!!!)
if you are going to give it, safest bet is to give the real deal.
but NO HARM DONE.
none at all. I am sure she enjoyed her sugar rush.

Re: Maple Syrup
We use a little blackstrap molasses for sweetness over maple syrup, blackstrap (not regular old Grandma's) is a great source of potassium and iron.
