i don't think you could EVER compare boxed mashed potatoes to homemade
because if you liked the boxed one MORE....something is seriously wrong with the scenario 
i do like the boxed....but HOMEMADE....OH DEARY...i LOOOOOOOOOOOOVED IT
No I am not saying I love it more than Home made mashed potatoes I love homemade mash potatoes I was just wondering could you taste the difference and If you liked it! Its all good mama!!

Buy some potatoes and garlic.
Put the garlic in the oven for about an hour, whole cloves.
Cut the potatoes into cubes, boil them until tender.
Remove garlic, throw it in the food processor with 3 tablespoons of butter, mix it up.
Strain the potatoes, put them in a bowl with 1/2 cup of milk, some fresh dill, and the garlic mixture. Beat with a hand mixer, and serve with fresh chopped green onion on top.

it's one of the easiest things to make. I hate peeling them, so I buy the all purpose kind and make "dirty" mashed potatoes.
I do the same!
Mashed potatos are so easy, I would never make from a box!

well the only reason why I do is Because Dh works two Jobs and I try to make a quick dinner for him because he is home for 1 hour and back out the door the next and I work in the morning so Its hard to make a home meal dinner.But I will have to make the time I know.

I will eat the instant kind only if desperate for a quick mashed potato fix, but homemade (particularly my grandma's homemade) is the way to go!

I cannot stand the box mix, but I buy the SimplePotatoes--the ones in the refridgerated section that are real mashed with an expiration date. Good for quick potatoes when there is no time to make real ones. Who am I kidding, I've never made real ones.

If it comes from a potato I love it!
I can usually tell the difference between homemade and boxed. If I had a choice between the 2, I would chose homemade...especially when it's lumpy...YUM!!!

I can proudly say that I didn't even know that mashed potatoes came in a box until I married DH. My mom would never make instant anything.
The conversation:
me: "I'm going to attempt to make mashed potatoes tonight. Any particular way you want them?"
DH: "Please, please don't make them from a box."
me (laughing): "Very funny. Mashed potatoes from a box."
DH (followed by silence): "You didn't know that you can get dried instant mashed potatoes?"
Me (feeling hopeful) "Wait! They really make them?! I don't even have to peel potatoes!?"
DH "No. They do not make mashed potatoes from a box. Call your mom if you need help."

the first time i found out that mashed potatoes came in a box was from Anthony too. Not that his mom made them this way (shes a great cook), but thats one of the things he told me he ate when he was away at school

There are a couple of advantages to boxed potatoes. They don't rot and they are cheap. For a family on a budget, they may be ideal. For those of us who have more discriminating tastes, boxed potatoes may be sacrilege.

I can definitely taste a difference b/w box and homemade...BUT
I like the box or pre-made refrigerated kind best. (I live for KFC's mashed potatoes!!!  )
