Masks
So the vaccine thread got me thinking about masks. I wear the things but I dislike it, especially for kids. In Florida the state education department is thinking of making them optional for next year. It will be up to the local districts to make the decision to require them or not. If you had the ability to move to avoid mask wearing, would you?

Re: Masks
While I want to move for many reasons I wouldn't move just to avoid mask mandates. That's a lot of hassle, money, inconvenience and uprooting of our lives for something that is a temporary issue. However we do want to leave NY eventually for many other reasons

No, that's an idiotic reason to pick up your whole life and move. Especially since masks are a temporary inconvenience.

No. There are many reasons to get out of this state, masks being the least of them. But, any place I would move to also has a mask mandate, but masks aren't forever. I love CT, MA, NH, MD, VA. No desire to ever live down south.

Honestly, I’m all FOR the masks in school. Not one stomach virus, cold, or bronchial infection and it’s April. Moving over masks? Do it if it’s that awful but not a reason why I would pack up and go anywhere. Just my opinion. I’m probably in the minority though.

You and me both. Too hot. I LOVE MA, CT and NH. We were hoping to move up there but for now, landed in NJ.

This!
I will also say, this is the first winter I haven’t had chapped lips and I think it’s because of wearing a mask. Keeps the lips hydrated in my very dry classroom.

Masks
I wouldn't move just for that. While I hate they have to wear them, my kids have gotten used to it, especially my younger son. We went to little league today, where they have a mask mandate and all of the kids were wearing them - the adults not so much.

Re: Masks
If masks were permanent then I may move, yes. Who knows, they may be permanent for all we know. I get why people want to wear them and I know most people think they are no big deal. But to me they are. I hate breathing in wet bacteria and never seeing anyone smile. But to each his own. Luckily now that it is nicer weather I only really wear it in the supermarket as required, since we won't really go anywhere that isn't outside. As for my kids, yes it's required for school and they seem to deal with it okay but I do think wearing it while playing outdoor sports is unhealthy and hope that stops sooner rather than later.

Those look like masks to me. They didn't have them on outdoors.

Yes not outdoors but not socially distanced as we are told here to do even outside.

Re: Masks
We’re mainly planning to move to another state for other type of mandates lol, so my kids can go back to school. So masks would just be an added reason to the main ones we already have lol!!! My kids don’t go to school in NY and we don’t really go to a lot of places that require masks all the time so maybe that’s why it’s not a reason to make us just pick and leave. I think some people just get used to masks and it’s not a problem using them anymore even though they might not really believe in them. There are also those that feel masks are completely necessary and must wear them at all times, nonstop. I don’t have a problem with any of these people. I understand and respect their reasoning in the sense that it’s important to them to do so and it’s their personal decision. It doesn’t sit well with me when it becomes a shaming thing and when people are demanding u to wear them the way they want u to. I have a problem with the entitlement that some feel and then proceed to dictate others when, how, and for how long they should be wearing their masks. Just like ChilisWife, I hate breathing breathing in all the bacteria that our body breathes out, I HATE it and do not think it’s beneficial for us at all, especially for such prolonged times. I’m interested in seeing what FL ends up doing with masks in schools. I heard DeSantis had a conference with doctors and other experts about the need for masks in schools but of course by the time I was looking up the youtube link, they deleted it, no surprise there.

That’s because everything is considered Covid. My oldest actually was just tested for strep and had the beginnings of it but is fine as it was stopped right away. It is still out there but you never hear anyone having the common cold anymore. You don’t find that odd?

I detest the masks but I agree, it's been REALLY nice not dealing with colds, stomach bugs, flu, etc. I guess that's one benefit of social distancing and masks. Maybe masks in school in the winter months isn't the worst thing.

No, that's not odd. None of the children in my class have been sick, with anything. So it's not like they were sick with the flu but the doctor said they had COVID. They haven't been sick. I get two horrible colds a year, once around September as soon as school begins, and usually another bad one in the winter. I've been fine. So, no not everything is a conspiracy and not everything is some weird government control thing. The masks work. One child died from flu this year. One. That is unheard of.

Right that is unheard of which begs the question why we didn’t take these precautions to begin with while our children were at risk.
I don’t mind the masks, would never move because of them. However I do think all of the ridiculous quarantine rules that NY imposed would make me consider moving if they bring those back. Also if they mandate the covid vaccine for children in schools before its fully FDA approved I’d have to figure out what to do.

I want to move from NY regardless. I do think masks laws are ridiculous from day one and just a placebo unless your wearing the real good ones. I rip that thing off as soon as i leave a building and so does my daughter. My family lives in Florida and know so many people who still got it regardless of mask wearing so theres that

Yes yes yes and the vaccine is a placebo too and I just heard about another side effect tonight and it is close family and it makes me mad that they chose to take it. I really hope it passes and doesn’t affect them for the long term.
It seems the stories of people who got it wore masks and it makes NO sense. Maybe because you are holding in the virus while if you had no mask on it might have just passed you and you wouldn’t be breathing it in under a mask.
