I just hope everyone screaming "take the masks off the kids " is teaching their kids to respect those kids who are keeping it on.
This is so important and I hope parents remind their children that you never know someone’s circumstances and to be understanding and kind to any children still wearing masks.
Those kids could be dealing with a sick grownup in their home and the last thing they need is another kid teasing them. Whatever anyone thinks of masks, please, please remind your kids to be kind. I have seen so many young children watch their moms and dads die of cancer and I tear up thinking how horrible it would be to add bullies to their already tough little worlds. Please make sure your kids are better than that.
Agreed. Yesterday a mom wrote on our PTA FB group that it is so sad that some kids will continue to wear masks outside even though they don’t have to. Maybe some children are immunocompromised or they live with someone who is. Or maybe they are like my kid who literally forgets he has a mask on even in 90 degree heat and keeps it on even though I told him he could take it off.
Has anyone heard of kids bullying other kids over mask wearing? In a million years my kids would never care if someone was wearing a mask, let alone say something about it. I think this is a bigger issue things of teaching your kid not to be an a** hole. Unfortunately if the kid is already making fun of someone for wearing a mask, it's probably a little too late.
actually some kid in my son's third grade class made a rude comment about my son having his shield up- I attribute it to his parents spewing crap at home... sad to think of what else this kid hears at home that I am sure he will regurgitate at some point in school
Right - so reminding people to teach their kids not to bully about masks is kind of pointless. If the parents are ass holes the kids will be ass holes. this isn't just a mask issue - it's a life issue.
Couldn’t agree more. I doubt a kid saying a rude comment to another kid for wearing a mask, or shield is being mean for the first time and let’s be honest it can definitely happen the other way too so let’s not kid ourselves. Bottom line is kindness and empathy shouldn’t be just taught now but it should have been taught from the beginning at home no matter where u come from, who u are, what political affiliation u have, if u’re vaccinated or if u’re not, if u wear a mask or not, or what ur favorite ice cream is. Good values should be instilled from the very beginning, period.

I'm going to honest, at this point with a mere 2-3 weeks of school left who gives a $hit if the kids have to wear masks??? There is so much outrage over something the kids have been doing already for TEN months even back in September when it was hot. How can anyone put this much energy and anger into something so insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Some people need a little perspective. Forty pages complaining about something we've all managed to do for a year, a few more weeks won't kill anyone.
Write off this school year, it's done. Kids are resilient and far less intolerant than their parents, they will survive another few weeks. Look ahead to the fall when no doubt life and school will be 100% back on track.
I hate the masks, my kids hate the masks but I'm not going to lose sleep over what's going on in the schools with just days left. Everyone needs to relax, get through the last few weeks, enjoy their summers and then by September they'll be nothing to stress about. The amount of energy some people are putting into this argument is mind boggling, make whatever choice you want regarding masks now that the mandate has been lifted and just move on. The schools will catch up whether now or later and all will be fine. Imagine what could be accomplished in the world if people put this much energy into issues that actually matter! Good grief.
Well since my kid came home today and was so happy about not wearing a mask in a 90 degree room, I care. There is no September new year for some kids and this was great news.
To many this matters and I get you won’t understand as it is a different view of how you feel.
I also know you don’t have a choice in NJ so this doesn’t affect you at all. People in NY are just tired of all of this. It is not science anymore, it’s all power.
How about Coumo sit in a mask for 6 hours in hot rooms and then maybe this would be lifted. He has absolutely no clue. He didn’t even wear a mask at the height of this pandemic. That should be a clue what is going on.
THIS issue DOES matter to many and we have the right to put our energy into it, no matter how you or anyone feels.
Blah Blah Blah
You're a broken record. It's June, not worth getting twisted over. The year is basically over.
I am not sure where you live except that it's a rural area in NJ, but the temps on LI this past week have been unbearable. If you told me you worked as a teacher and that you are completely fine wearing a mask for 7+ hours a day in a non air conditioned room with poor ventilation, then perhaps I would consider it more appropriate for you to voice your opinion. But since it seems you probably spend most of your day mask free, lounging around your house, is it possible that you can't relate to the people that work or attend schools right now having to wear a mask all day? Some of the kids who weren't previously struggling have started struggling in the past week or two because it is now so uncomfortably hot. No one is asking you to join the fight to get our kids mask free, sh*t I am not even fighting this fight because frankly I think it's a waste of time, but why can't you just take a moment to see the other side and see why someone might want to fight this fight? Just like no one on that side gives two sh*ts if you double mask to go out for a jog, why do you care if someone wants to get upset and fight this fight? For once in your life just shut up!!!!
There is a push for legislation in NY to address the issue of temperatures in classrooms. The proposed law would require action to relieve heat conditions when a classroom hits 82 and that it be vacated at 88. My SD has very limited AC for the classrooms. Only a few have them and no fans since CoVid. The heat has been unbearable for the past few days. My children have texted me that they feel as if they are going to faint. I tell them to go to the mask break room or the office for relief. Then I was told that the mask break rooms are not always available because of lack of staffing.

It is UNBEARABLE! My room is easily 100 degrees.
No learning can be done on days like these. I sweat through my clothes on both Monday and Tuesday. It's disgusting. Yet I still have students wearing HOODIES.

These kids are such freaks lol. I don’t know what the obsessions is with hoodies. My sons AC unit broke in his room, scorching hot and he wears a hoodie every night to bed. I don’t get it.

I do not understand it either.
One kid wearing a hoodie asked me, "could you move this shit away from me". "This shit" was the fan. I asked the other kids who wanted the fan blowing on them and pretty much every hand went up.

Yeah, ahole parents produce ahole kids and kindness starts in the home. But since this thread is about masks, I called out kindness in relation to masks.

I am hearing even in FL people are coming at people wearing and not wearing masks. When I am out I am not questioning people. This weekend I saw a woman who clearly should have stayed home the way she was all covered up at a place where everyone else was 2019 but I wouldn’t say a word.
