I'm going to honest, at this point with a mere 2-3 weeks of school left who gives a $hit if the kids have to wear masks??? There is so much outrage over something the kids have been doing already for TEN months even back in September when it was hot. How can anyone put this much energy and anger into something so insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Some people need a little perspective. Forty pages complaining about something we've all managed to do for a year, a few more weeks won't kill anyone.
Write off this school year, it's done. Kids are resilient and far less intolerant than their parents, they will survive another few weeks. Look ahead to the fall when no doubt life and school will be 100% back on track.
I hate the masks, my kids hate the masks but I'm not going to lose sleep over what's going on in the schools with just days left. Everyone needs to relax, get through the last few weeks, enjoy their summers and then by September they'll be nothing to stress about. The amount of energy some people are putting into this argument is mind boggling, make whatever choice you want regarding masks now that the mandate has been lifted and just move on. The schools will catch up whether now or later and all will be fine. Imagine what could be accomplished in the world if people put this much energy into issues that actually matter! Good grief.
Yes, right?...Imagine what could be accomplished in the world if people put this much energy into issues that actually matter instead of constantly telling others what to do or what not to do, what to complain and what not to complain about, instead of constantly going after strangers on a public forum...imagine!
I’ve said it before and I’m gonna say it again, the fact that ur children were able to get used to masks does not mean that was the same situation for others. Is it that hard to feel empathetic to others that feel differently than u? And I don’t care if it was 1 day or 1 year, I’d still do anything in my power to make masks optional if my kids were in school especially considering the numbers we have now.

Well since my kid came home today and was so happy about not wearing a mask in a 90 degree room, I care. There is no September new year for some kids and this was great news.
To many this matters and I get you won’t understand as it is a different view of how you feel.
I also know you don’t have a choice in NJ so this doesn’t affect you at all. People in NY are just tired of all of this. It is not science anymore, it’s all power.
How about Coumo sit in a mask for 6 hours in hot rooms and then maybe this would be lifted. He has absolutely no clue. He didn’t even wear a mask at the height of this pandemic. That should be a clue what is going on.
THIS issue DOES matter to many and we have the right to put our energy into it, no matter how you or anyone feels.
Blah Blah Blah
You're a broken record. It's June, not worth getting twisted over. The year is basically over.

Today was one day that my daughter didn't have to sit in school with a fuking mask on and it will probably be the only day for the rest of the year due to our asshole dictator, and you know what, it was great. She came home with a smile. She loved it. Her mood is much improved. Sucks that it was only one day, but it still felt like a small victory, not sure why. She used to wearing a mask, but I don't care how used to it you are, it still sucks big time. Especially all day in a hot school. No matter how you spin it, no matter how long they keep us in these awful face covers, there is no denying it is NOT normal and it is NOT natural to be breathing in your own hot breath carbon dioxide. You can chose to wear a mask for the rest of your live to avoid ever contracting a germ again, but it's not normal. It just is not.

Re: Masks encouraged but not required in NY schools
I think the children should be allowed to unmask. It's hot. It's in school 5 days a week now. Children that have been vaccinated or have had Covid in the last 3 months should be allowed to unmask. They can go anywhere else without a mask why not school.

Guess we should consult Hofstra anytime we have issues that effect us and we would like to vent and see if it should be worth our time. God forbid anyone should have an opposing view. Not sure what she is using her energy for but coming here and attacking me for anything I say. I would say fighting for our kids is a better use of time.

My kid too was so happy about not wearing a mask in a 90 degree room with no windows. I don’t care if tomorrow was the last day, this should be lifted for these poor kids.

I don't think anyone is arguing they don't suck and ITA that it's better for the kids to be unmasked. That being said, I have no expectations for change in school with so few days left. But I'm with everyone on the outrage if come September ANY COVID protocols are in place. I'm just letting this year play out and loooking ahead at this point. It's almost over. I can't wait to burn every mask we have.

Re: Masks encouraged but not required in NY schools
I personally hope they keep masks until the end of the year- it's 2 more weeks,we have done so well in terms of spread in school- it's not worth the risk to me. I am also one of the few parents that asked for the desk shield to stay on- I work in healthcare, my Dad is undergoing radiation for cancer -I worry about people like my Dad.
My neighbor just died Wednesday from complications brought on by Covid- your perspective changes when you lose someone you care about.
I just hope everyone screaming "take the masks off the kids " is teaching their kids to respect those kids who are keeping it on.

Every?? Wow, that bubble u live in needs to burst. Not every kid has gotten used to masks. I personally know 2 families that have constantly struggled with their kids wearing masks during all this long year. For them, is not an option homeschooling or going virtual and although they have reasons for not wearing masks, they’re not exempt from doing so. Please stop generalizing so much!

EVERY kid who has been in person this year has gotten use to masks, they can survive the last 2ish weeks. I'm sure by September, this will be a non-issue. It's not worth getting twisted over with so few days left.
Please do not tell people what is or is not worth caring about.
If you're going to complain on a public forum, you'll have opposing views. I don't think this is worth caring about, someone else can feel differently, but all views will be expressed in a public arena. If that bothers anyone, there are specific groups for like minded individuals where everyone shares the same exact viewpoint, this group isn't it.

They have been in person all year? Then somehow they found a way to manage despite the challenge. That was my point. If a child completely couldn't deal, then they wouldn't be in person, it wouldn't be possible. Stop being overly sensitive. Everyone hates masks but we've all found ways to cope, even kids.

I guess I’ll have them contact u so they can directly explain to u how their children still have a hard time dealing with masks and why they still need them in school while u so insensitively tell them they don’t exist and their struggles don’t matter because according to u “every” child is used to masks.

DH and I (and really most of our friends & family) are vaccinated. I still wear a mask in stores most of the time because I do have emotional/mental trauma from all of this. I started to feel more comfortable a few weeks ago and then my 39 year old husband had a stroke. Not to say that it has anything to do with Covid or masks or anything like that. But, emotionally/mentally, it F&*(ked me up again. So, we're back to being a little more cautious. He has to have a heart procedure this week (as they think he has an undetected issue that caused the stroke) and I'm sure we'll enjoy fresh air privately, but will definitely be more cautious out and about. We will not double mask (never did) or wear gloves (never did), but we will be more cautious about where we are & who we are around maskless. You can never know WHY people choose to do the things they do, but you don't need to judge them- you have no idea what they are going through. Id' rather wear a mask and be ridiculed and still have my husband.
I’m sorry to hear that happened to ur DH. Sending lots of healing prayers ur way!
If wearing a mask makes u feel better when dealing with last year’s trauma and u also do it to proactively protect ur hubby, go right ahead mama. More kudos to u. At the same time if someone else decides not to wear a mask for whatever reason, that should be ok too. We can’t force everyone to do what we think it’s best, that’s the reason why mandates don’t work and they’re not fair. We all have different reasons for doing the things we do and we all should be able to have a say on what’s best for us.
thank you. I completely agree- I do not judge those who are or aren't vaccinated, who do or don't wear masks. I am choosing to do what's right for me and my family as I have since March 2020. We can all have opinions, but I'm so freaking tired of all the arguing, name calling, etc. (and I don't just mean on here...I was name called at home depot the day the mask mandate was lifted) I literally almost lost my husband before we're 40 and none of this $hit matters. Do what YOU need to do to feel safe and happy. Don't worry about everyone else.

Maybe these issues DO matter to some people. Not everyone wants to roll over and play dead and let others decide whats best for our kids. I am a parent and will always advocate for my child based on how I feel what is right for them. It's our responsibility to be a parent for the rest of their lives. Yes there is only a few weeks left but its hot as he** masks don't work, time to get rid of them. Just curious what are you passionate about? What should we be putting all of our effort into?

Masks encouraged but not required in NY schools
The state never should have announced anything on Friday. They caused chaos and confusion, as usual. Everyone expected masks through the last day of school, they should have just left it alone. I feel bad for the children who got a taste of going without a mask today and now tomorrow the mask is back.

I agree.
Our kids were told Saturday they didn't have to mask and yesterday they were told that they were... A mess... I was thinking it was pretty promising since it was announced but, I think he just leaked it to keep his daughter out of the top story (there was nothing wrong with her announcement and it wasn't really top story worthy but it must have been a slow news day).

Teachers should teach outside. The emperor said kids don’t need masks outside.
