Medicated IUI meds cost..
I have a pretty normal prescription plan for meds and a separate for injectibles. I am meeting with my RE tomorrow for a consult and this will prob be my first choice of action. My question is-- are the meds for a medicated IUI usually covered by prescription plans or are these all out of pocket? DH is NYPD and I'm so scared I will have to pay thousands out of pocket.

It's impossible to say, all plans are different. I'd call your insurance company in the morning to find out. I really hate surprises! Good luck!!
Not that my insurance impacts yours at all but just for reference, my last one gave me 3 refills of injectable meds in a lifetime. My current one has no limit. They all differ... Hopefully you are covered to any degree, though the women on this board are so generous with 'proven' members on the board which I think you are!

Re: Medicated IUI meds cost..
I just got new coverage effective 2/1 and am going to be starting the injectibles in a few days for the IUI. When I read over my new insurance plan I didn't see anything at all about infertility coverage-whereas my prior coverage showed that it was coverage. My HR department called the company and they said it is a NY State mandate to cover the diagnosis, medications, and testing and the IUI. I confirmed this again today-IVF however, is not covered. I have a huge deductible ($2800) and i'll be paying out of pocket pretty much for my injectibles ($2600) but it will apply towards my deductible, so i'm almost done with that for the year.. .. I would call and ask- but even if the policy doesn't cover it, you should still be covered by this NY mandate.

each insurance plan is different, one plan may cover everything, one may just cover meds, one may not cover anything at all. I would call your provider and see what your plan specifics are.

I just wanted to add that there are ways around this NY State law- my husbands employer's insurance found a way and we were screwed. If your employer is self insured, then they are exempt from this law, or if your company's main office is based out of a different state, then they do not need to follow this law. I can't tell you how many phone calls I had to make back and forth between the Benefits Administrator of my husbands employer and our insurance company to finally get an answer. According to them, infertility coverage is an elective procedure- right along the lines with a facelift as the wonderful rep from my insurance company put it .

Does your DH have the GHI/Emblem CBP insurance? My DH is FDNY. I had hefty co-pays, but all of my injectibles were covered when I did IVF.
