Memory and Late Night Feeding Question

Okay - so we've all heard of 'mommy brain'...i get it - we lose brain cells, etc...

For Em's night-time feedings though - i'm having issues 'remembering' them. She wakes at like 3 or whatever and I feed her and then i truly do NOT remember what happens after I feed her. I wake up at like 7 when she starts crying again for food and we're both on the couch...and i have NO memory of anything that happened and i mean that (did i shut off the tv or did dave do that when he got up? who shut off the light? did i burp her? did she eat 3 or 4 ounces?? did i change her after feeding her??).

This worries me a bit - because it makes me nervous that i don't put her down 'properly' to sleep (i typically wake up with her in my arms)...but today - she was in my arms and her face was facing the couch - which really made me nervous...it was not IN or ON the couch - but if i would've turned over or something - what if????

I have not had a good nights' sleep (even in my 12 days in the hospital) in more than a month almost...and i know i'm horribly sleep deprived & i have a horrible headache every day (since we left the hospital - we're heading towards a month now)...but is this a normal thing? Could it all be because i haven't slept well or is it just because i'm a mommy now and that's life???

thanks for listening and for any insight you can provide.... i'd just like to know if i'm alone on this one or if it's normal and to be expected..

I had trouble remembering a lot of stuff initially as well. DH and I kept a log of everything for the first few weeks- number of ounces, wet/dirty diaper, time/date, etc. That way, the next time I woke up I could just look at the chart and remember what I did with DS a few hours before. It really helped us a lot! Chat Icon

Epidural can cause headaches. I would be totally insane if my babysitter didn't come. I sleep in the morning for a straigh 3-4 hours. Try to get someone to come take care of her so you can sleep-or buy one of those sleep positioners you can put in your bed to keep her safe and nap together

Its only been 2 days and I forget 2 seconds later!Chat Icon so we keep a log of everything and I write it down as it happens. This helps soo much!

this is going to sound insane - but REMEMBERING to write everything down would likely be a challenge too...Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Memory and Late Night Feeding Question

I would do the same thing, just nod off in the middle of a 3am feeding while BFing DS. Id wake up and not know if I had passed out for a second our a half hour. It is scary.
