Its strange how Im critzizing someones parenting... when that person isnt a parent, and right now isnt parenting anyone! Here we go with the NAIVE-- I hope you realize that you are putting down ALL the women on here who are giving their opinions who ARENT moms.
what are you saying because we dont a child YET that we dont have parenting skills?
No- Im saying that I think your POV might change when you become one! I think there was a MATURE way to go about that. YOu could have stated that to begin with instead of calling me stupid and saying Im somewhere else and the coughing sarcasim post!
Again- I didnt call YOU stupid... I said leaving a child in the car along was stupid

Why do you have to change her mind? Did you ever think its her opinion and you have yours? I didnt agree or disagree with her but I think you should have you POV and let her have hers.

As someone else said, when you become a parent, and your are overwhelmed with love and responsibilty, your views ( with the exception of a few VERY SMART, non moms who are posting) will change this is RUDE- just because you ARE a mom doesnt make us NON moms unable to be PROTECTIVE mothers or person!
Let me tell ya...
Neenie and Deb (well Deb your a mom, your baby just not here yet) are right on the money- and there not moms... you my dear... are somewhere else! ok I let you yes let you in 2 post call me stupid and say im somewhere else- well let me tell you there miss young marisa- YOu are NAIVE and IMMATURE to tell someone how they choose to live or bring up their children is WRONG b/c YOU dont agree! I see you as one of those moms whos kids HIDES everything from them b/c your are NOT thier friend YOU are what we call the over obssesive, not my kid, my kid is perfect mother I hear the other moms saying as they wait for the school bus. the kid who rebels b/c you have to watch for the sickos.
And what does the fact that Im young have to do with ANYTHING????
I old enough to have enough sense to protect my child the best way I can...thats all that counts!

Girlygrl has anyone changed your mind about this at all?? No.
I was 10 and mature enough at that age, that I was able to go into a bathroom by myself and to play by myself outside and to sit in the car and behave for a few minutes.
Yes that was 1980 and the world is different but the world was bad then too and the world will continue to be bad, but my point is, If I had to go to the bathroom real bad- cause this is stemming from the first or second page about the dad holding it in or running into a diner/restaurant or mickey d- I said too if you go back and read that I felt that was safer for the 10yr old to wait outside by the restrooms than a busy movie theatre AND in the car locked with her brother.
Now if my daughter is mature and 10 and is quite capable of handling herself while she listens to the radio or plays with her gameboy b/c she doesnt want to come in and Im going to be right out, yes I would trust her- lock the doors get what I have to get and run out.
If I know Im going to be in for more than 5 minutes then like I said in another post Im saying 5 minutes not 1/2 or 1hr I wouldnt leave them at that age, in the car.
I dont see any danger in sitting in a locked car at that age for a few minutes than if she was out bike riding, playing at a friends house, even in the PTA, no one knows someone for sure. they could be pot heads for all you know too, you can never be too safe, yes you try your hardest and try to control the situation.
Some 10 yr olds have the mind of 13 yr old, most girls mature much faster than boys. I stand by my original answer. Not everyone is going to agree and thats fine, but I would know better when that time comes if my daughter would be able to handle a few minutes in the car by herself at that age and older. No I dont see CPS knocking on my door for that.
I think its really mean to say that non moms dont have an aspect or an opinion on how we would raise our children or to be protective.
You shoudnt call someone stupid for it- or say their action is stupid- whats the difference, say live your live accordingly- to who? you and your views, say that someone is somewhere else- yada yada, Im quoting you and Marissa just b/c we dont see eye to eye on what age we feel is appropiate for your child to be ok sitting in the car while you run in and out.
Yes, I was wrong for stooping and saying some of the things I did, but you guys have to understand too , you can push a person so far until they break down too. And it was unfair, especially since before I began to rebut I didnt personally attack you and was personally being quoted and questioned.
You have your views, and no mamandaddy of 2 you dont have to give me advice or wish me luck b/c I would never to that to you.
I would never tell someone "how" to raise their children wrong or right- in my eyes, I would give an opinion just like this post had asked but would never outright start getting personal like you guys did.

Re: mens rooms
who am i or anyone else to judge a criticize another parents actions? you or i may not agree w/ it but it is up to the parent to make the judgment call. no one knows the history of this family and perhaps the father had a very good reason to NOT leave the child unattended. again, IMO we are not in the position to judge if the decision was right or wrong. if the men in the bathroom were uncomfortable than the could opt to use the stalls.
and comparing this incident to leaving a child in a car alone is like comparing apples to oranges (completely unrelated). deciding to bring a child in an opposite sex bathroom is a personal choice whereas leaving a child in a car unattended is illegal.
i think this thread has gotten a little out of hand and some people are being WAY too sensitive and judgemental.

Re: mens rooms
Just wanted to say that I grew up in a house with three males. I saw them pee on several occassions and i turned out pretty well (i think - never had to go to therapy becasue of it)
I was curious, so I asked DH what he would do - would he rather leave his daughter alone to be possibly abducted or molested, or bring her in to a location where she might see a penis. He asked what the big deal about seeing a penis was.

I respect your opinion but like you said, that was your family history, it actually wasnt mine. Ive never seen my brothers or fathers penis. I personally do not think you would need therapy for it but I dont think its appropriate for my child to be in a mens room at 10.

Re: mens rooms
are you running a poll? LOL My gosh...girlygirl is entitled to her opinion as are you. Many people agreed that they wouldnt have a 10 yr old in a mens room and many said they would...is that the answer for everyone or just LIF?

I never saw my dad's penis while he was peeing.....but I'd see him go to the bathroom, and it was no big deal.

huh? i am in no position to judge the father's decision and neither are you.
to comment is one thing but to criticize is quite another.

again I started the thread out that I was shocked to see a man bring his 10 yr old into a mens room. I didnt call him any names or criticize him. In fact I havent written on this thread until 9 pages later.

Re: mens rooms
I just wanted to add one more thing to everyone who is asking who am I to criticize this man, I, like everyone on here am entitled to an opinion. I NEVER called this man a name or a bad father I asked for opinions and got some similiar to mine and some different. Thats great! Thats what makes a board cool is to hear others POV. If you look at the board in general it takes someone to comment on something for a discussion to arise.
