I think its impossible for any mom to watch their kids 24-7. I think what some of us are saying is that we do the best we can with what we have control over.. I have control over leaving my children alone in a public place or in a car..
I totally AGREE 100%

Agreed- I didn't think marriage would make me change my views on my DH but it really did (for the better of course)

Exactly... no you cant be everywhere, nor stop them from doing or getting into trouble... BUT the things you can control... (like leaving a child in a car) you should!

Someone else brought up guilt vs criminal acts regarding parents not me. Back to my main point (not being kids left in cars or being stolen from cars), I think 10 yr old girls should be allowed to go in womens bathrooms solo.
i dont disagree with letting her go into the bathroom herself, and (the dad) waiting right outside of the door. Give it 5 minutes, if shes not out, then take action.
BUT, i think its different if it was because (now i sound like i'm beating a dead horse) HIM that needed to go.
I answered that way above in thes mish mosh of a posting or at least I think I did but maybe someone caught me with something else. What I said was that she should have waited with her older brother outside the mens room. I didnt say anything about her and her bro being left in a car.

Re: mens rooms
there was a special about how kids will go with strangers and stuff and they video taped it and the parents watched and they had people who worked for 20/20 ( i think it was) approach these kids and the kids fell for the act like oh i cant find my dog help me or can you come over to my car and the point is parents may think they have taught their kids to do the right thing but in an actual situation would they? So my point is if you said stay in this car dont roll down the window or unlock the door you can think no my kid wil listen to me but would they could they be fooled by a strnger?

oh yes I saw that, very scary.
these kids were taught not to talk to strangers or go with them if they didn't know them.
a lot of parents were very shocked at their kids. it's a scary thing.

so then I am assuming I answered your question? The brother could have watched her outside the bathroom door while the father went into the bathroom.

As someone else said, when you become a parent, and your are overwhelmed with love and responsibilty, your views ( with the exception of a few VERY SMART, non moms who are posting) will change this is RUDE- just because you ARE a mom doesnt make us NON moms unable to be PROTECTIVE mothers or person!
Let me tell ya...
Neenie and Deb (well Deb your a mom, your baby just not here yet) are right on the money- and there not moms... you my dear... are somewhere else! ok I let you yes let you in 2 post call me stupid and say im somewhere else- well let me tell you there miss young marisa- YOu are NAIVE and IMMATURE to tell someone how they choose to live or bring up their children is WRONG b/c YOU dont agree! I see you as one of those moms whos kids HIDES everything from them b/c your are NOT thier friend YOU are what we call the over obssesive, not my kid, my kid is perfect mother I hear the other moms saying as they wait for the school bus. the kid who rebels b/c you have to watch for the sickos.

You calling me obsessive, or overprotective is a compliment in my eyes...
You bet your @ss I will do everything in my power to protect my child...

Re: mens rooms
why is this becoming so personal?
really- i dont mean that against anyone in particular... we have different POV's and obviously theres conflict over the 'topic at hand'... but why make it personal?

Re: mens rooms
I'd be surprised seeing a 10 year old girl walking out of the men's bathroom too. At that age, I think it would be ok for a 10 year old to go to the bathroom by herself as long as the father was waiting outside of the bathroom. However, I wouldn't judge a father who decided to bring his children into the restroom so he could keep an eye on them. He did what he felt was the best under the circumstances.
