mice
what can i do to get rid of them??
we live in an NYC apartment building - they did some construction in the lobby recently and suddenly we noticed we had mice (have been there for 4+ years without any).
we have had one dead one in the apartment so our super came about 2 weeks ago and plugged up all the holes (so he says). we hadnt noticed any signs of mice since then until this morning...i was sitting in DDs room, giving her a bottle when one came running across her floor i freaked and ran out of the room with her. i have no idea where it went or anything.
we told the super and he said he will come up and look again but he believes its trapped in our apartment with no where to go bc he insists he sealed everything up.
we have a few traps out but its hard bc dd is 9 months and crawling everywhere. since shes so little they cant put down poison either.
im so grossed out - i want to tell my landlord we arent paying rent until the problem is solved but i know thats over reacting. the thought of dd crawling on the same floor mice are running on is making me sick
is there anything i can do at all??

Try putting steel wool under your stove to block the gap between the stove and floor

Re: mice
Like the pp said, steel wool to fill the gaps in all the connector holes - behind the stove, fridge, under the sink/dishwasher. I think you might also be able to use spray foam, which will seal things better.
You also need to take a look at your radiators, sometimes there are holes in those connections depending on what kind they are. Also look at all your floors and ceilings for little holes in the trim.

Re: mice
Your landlord has to seal any holes in your neighbor's apts, too. Ask them if they're having any mice problems. Mice will go from one apt to another. Also seal up any open foods and clean any crumbs after meals.
Mice are rough but you'll get rid of them! (Hopefully before we visit you next month! )

Ugh. I feel for you! All it takes is for a hole the size of a pencil for those little guys to squeeze through. Mixing concrete with steel wool to plug up the holes will definitely help.

Peppermint on cotton balls throughout the house repels them in a natural way. They hate the smell! =)
