am i the only one who thinks there is something wrong with her? like, a mental illness or something? to put your body through pregnancy, childbirth and then the raising of 20 children seems like an insane thing to do. i kind of feel like there is an element of attention seeking going on here, and maybe something psychological as to why she needs that attention.
I truly don't think she wanted a life like this in the beginning. If you listen to their story, she doesn't even remember Jim Bob the first time she met him. She was outgoing, a cheerleader and I think she (like her daughter-in-law) fell in love with the idea of someone taking care of them. Not that I don't think they love their dh's but I think the dh's are more obsessed with them then they are with them. I don't know if I am saying this right or not. The DIL commented on how determined the son was and that she liked that about him BUT it wasn't love at first site either.
I think they are cute together but I think he would drive me NUTS with his CONSTANT kissing and following her like a puppy dog.

I say it every time this family comes up in conversation...if they can afford to financially and emotionally care for that many children, god bless them.
just because not everyone wants that lifestyle for themselves doesn't make it wrong or weird. They seem like a wonderful family and their children seem to have more morals than most in this day and age...they must be doing SOMETHING right.

More like, what person with 19 kids already and a recent miscarriage tries to get pregnant at 48? They actually disgust me. She rather RISK her life, when she has all those children, to have another child???

I agree with you.
I think it's very unfair and unkind to judge them. They are raising kind, moral, hard working citizens. The more people like that out there in the world the better IMO.

I think it's very unfair and unkind to judge them. They are raising kind, moral, hard working citizens. The more people like that out there in the world the better IMO.
I agree.
I never understand why people bash them or the choice they made to have that many children. Who cares? Nothing they do with their lives is affecting how the rest of us live.
Plus, they have managed to raise 19 kids who are well mannered, smart, polite, good morals etc. There are families who are raising only a few and they are spoiled, selfish, sexually active etc...so really why must people always bash this family? They clearly know what they are doing.

This was my thinking as well. Their youngest was born at 25 or 26 weeks due to complications (I think preeclampsia). I get that can happen at any age but I feel like at 48 years old and after 19 children and a recent late term miscarriage it's just too big of a risk.

Thank you! I totally agree. I don't know why they bother people so much. Many years ago it used to be normal to have very large families like this. They seem way more functional than many families that come to mind.
Also, I think it's a lot different to be 'not using birth control' vs going for fertility treatments. It sounds like they do what many old school Catholics did and she just happens to be very fertile.

Why do people get upset that people make jokes about or 'bash' the Duggars? Whether a bunch of strangers support them or not, they'll do what they want.
I don't have 'care' about them to think that it's irresponsible to risk your health to have your 20th child when you have so many others to take care of.

Her uterus and cervix is so weakend by all of those pregnancies(preterm delivery with her loss). I would be terrified. My uterus is weak and no where near her count.

Who cares about these people? I truly do not understand the public's interest in them. So they have a bazillions kids. Ok... I could not care less what this woman does with her uterus. Let it fall out, let her have forty kids, doesn't impact me one way or the other.

Do you watch the show?? The kids are brainwashed. The girls have absolutely no mind of their own and no control over their own lives. I think it's sad.

I don't watch the show but I think they're nuts just for the fact alone that they want more kids after having 19 already... but hey, God bless & as long as they're able to afford it without imposing on others (as in going on welfare) & the kids are thriving & becoming good people, then good for them.

I'd be too scared to continue on having kids with so many medical factors against her but they put their trust in God's will. If she dies during childbirth it's the will of God. Nothing anyone says is going to deter them otherwise. It's a shame though that they would leave all those young children motherless, but at least they have the oldest sisters who take care of them anyway.
I don't think the oldest girls are brainwashed anymore than Honey Boo Boo is brainwashed. It's how they grow up. At least their children are contributing members of society in a positive way.

I totally agree with those who say that it is her decision how many kids to have. I'm pro-choice and it is her choice to do with her body what she wants.
However, I have a lot of problems with the Duggars, and don't understand why people think they are so great. They hand the babies off to the older kids to raise. The older children are allowed no independence whatsoever. They are not allowed to go to college, pursue higher education, date, or marry who they choose. They are closely monitored, and the daughters are not allowed access to the money they earn from the show.
Additionally, the oldest son, Josh, works for a hate group, the Family Research Council. It's been all over the show about his "great new job in DC" but he works for a bona fide hate group. With his family's blessing.
So, while I don't give a hoot how many babies she pushes out, I care a lot that they basically keep their children as slaves and promote hate, because that goes against basic human decency. I cringe when I see that family applauded in any way.

EXACTLY. I think if you don't watch the show and follow them, you think of them as different people, just ones that are having a ton of kids but taking care of them all.
