am i the only one who thinks there is something wrong with her? like, a mental illness or something? to put your body through pregnancy, childbirth and then the raising of 20 children seems like an insane thing to do. i kind of feel like there is an element of attention seeking going on here, and maybe something psychological as to why she needs that attention.
I thought this too. I am a couple of years younger than she is. With the last miscarriage she had and her age, I would be too terrified of dying and leaving the family I have to take a chance by getting pregnant again, I don't think that is rational thinking.

I totally agree with those who say that it is her decision how many kids to have. I'm pro-choice and it is her choice to do with her body what she wants.
However, I have a lot of problems with the Duggars, and don't understand why people think they are so great. They hand the babies off to the older kids to raise. The older children are allowed no independence whatsoever. They are not allowed to go to college, pursue higher education, date, or marry who they choose. They are closely monitored, and the daughters are not allowed access to the money they earn from the show.
Additionally, the oldest son, Josh, works for a hate group, the Family Research Council. It's been all over the show about his "great new job in DC" but he works for a bona fide hate group. With his family's blessing.
So, while I don't give a hoot how many babies she pushes out, I care a lot that they basically keep their children as slaves and promote hate, because that goes against basic human decency. I cringe when I see that family applauded in any way.
Aren't a couple of the older daughters going to school to be midwives?

Jill would not have any "real" medical training like a midwife in NY or other states would have. Jana is not training as a midwife but since the Duggar girls are not allowed to be off the property without another member of their family being with them, Jana attends the births with Jill.

Interesting. Thanks. So basically, they are NOT going to school and getting an education that can take them anyplace. I am sure they are expected to quit working as soon as they get married.
One of them is "courting" someone now, which means they will eventually get married and she will just start reproducing like her mother and SIL.

Sorry, but I do. I watch all the shows and find it horrible how these girls basically have no mind of their own.
Their parents are out there acting like teenagers while their kids are raising their siblings.

I watched an episode where they explained that jana is training to be a doula, so she would need to be involved in the birth experience.

I watch the show and while I dont agree with their beliefs, I dont think they are brainwashing their children any more than an other child raised in any other religion. We all raise our children to believe what we do, I dont call that brainwashing, its just being a parent. If you watch, I think its clear that the girls are not meek by any means nor have they ever said they arent allowed "off campus". The girls are pursuing a higher education and studying through online college classes and Jana is learning to be a doula, thats why she works with Jill. They have said they dont put a huge emphasis on college for any of their children (boys or girls) but if they do want to go on to higher learning, all the children, boys and girls would do these online classes.
Also, neither jim bob or michelle were this conservative when they first got married. They suffered a miscarriage early on and their beliefs about birth control and family changed from there. I highly doubt that Michelle is just going along with jim bob, In fact, its probably the other way around.

Yep. Sorry but these are closed minded people and they are bringing their kids up the same way. I really hope one of them "breaks" from the family and realizes that there is a big world out there and that they don't have to follow what their family says and does.

i really believe michelle has some kind of mental illness.. i think it's terrible that they keep having kids and then forcing the older ones to take care of the younger ones instead of letting them have their own lives.

I just finished a book about a person who was raised in their religion and Escaped. She says it is a cult and the Duggars are members. The book was very interesting - it explains about their home schooling, tons of children, and about their "degrees" they receive from their colleges. I can't even imagine living a day in their life

Interesting. I always wonder if one of the kids will "escape" and "out" them in the future.
