Milk bottle before bed at 17 mo. Too old?
DD has been drinking water and milk from a straw cup or a sports cup for a while now. But she won't go to sleep without drinking milk from a bottle at night(only at night and just for milk) I told my mom and she thinks DD is too old to be drinking milk from a bottle at 17 months.

DD is still using bottles at 19 months We've tried a few times to do the full switch, but it hasn't worked yet (we haven't tried in the last few months though).
We plan to have her off of them by the end of the month-- we're determined!

the only issue I see with that is having milk on her teeth (promote tooth decay) and later on for potty training. Seems like she likes the comfort of sucking.

DS just turned 18 months and he has one milk bottle at night. All other bottles have been turned into cups except the night one.

I know it is not very good for teeth at all

Re: Milk bottle before bed at 17 mo. Too old?
No not at all.
It seems taboo and an embarrassing hidden secret when parents "admit" their DC's use a bottle at night. I find it so absurd.
I know SOO many people who "admitted" their DC's still took a bottle (even at age 4) at night after I was open with them about my DC.
If your DC wants that comfort (be it a bottle or a paci) why take it away. It will only make both of your lives harder. Come potty training time, then you negotiate.
I don't believe in making drastic changes without some understanding from my child. If I just took away his "lovie" because I was ready doesn't seem fair. When she is ready you will know.

For 12 months, DS went down at night with my boob. Now, at 17 1/2 months he settles in with a bottle of milk. He drinks it with a bedtime story and we put him in his crib. He typically plays for less than 5 minutes, then is out cold.
I'm not changing anytime soon.

I brush her teeth before bed(or most nights . I try to every night:)) . She has no problem potty training, she is almost fully potty trained , but why would a bottle interfere with that Just curious

Same for me - DS started drinking the bottle at 11 months. I could not just take it away, it took forever to get him on it.
For potty training - it is that bottles can make it harder at night because their bladders are full (vice taking a couple of sips from a cup)

Re: Milk bottle before bed at 17 mo. Too old?
The need for milk in a bottle is due to the sucking reflex. This reflex is powerful and is embeeded into them right from birth. Very hard to get rid of!!! lol I always try not to let my little one fall asleep sucking. I get the bottle out of his mouth and talk to him a little before he falls asleep. It doesn't always work of course but I don't want my little one needing a bottle to go to sleep when they get older. Good luck trying to wean your baby out of the bottle, I hear its one of the most difficult things to do! XOXOXO BOTB

Re: Milk bottle before bed at 17 mo. Too old?
DS just turned 17 mos and he still gets one bottle a day of milk before bed (about 30 minutes prior) - we also brush his teeth after the bottle so no issue with that. We have gotten rid of the bottles all day and everything else is in sippy cups - I know I have to take it away but, Im just waiting for a good time - I know it will mess with his sleeping and he is FINALLY sleeping and I hate to screw it up! but, i know i have to...
17 mo and potty trained...THAT IS GREAT!!!!!! Is that normal? I haven't even started dS on potty training yet!

Re: Milk bottle before bed at 17 mo. Too old?
ds will be 17 m in 2 weeks only has juice in a sippy cup I try and put the milk in it and he is not interested, He has a bottle 30min or so before he goes to bed and gets his teeth brushed I dont see any problem with kids drinking from a bottel up to adge 2. All kids are diff and you can not force them to change there ways, they are used to what they know

Re: Milk bottle before bed at 17 mo. Too old?
My son is 17 months also...you are gonna think i'm crazy, but he still gets THREE bottles a day!!! My doctor said not to get rid of any bottles til he turns two. I probably should try to get rid of some, but i feel bad..he loves his baba!!! I keep telling myself that when he turns 18 months, im gonna slowly take away some bottles. We shall see! So, is 17 months too old for baba?? NOPE..not in my eyes :)

Re: Milk bottle before bed at 17 mo. Too old?
DS will be 17 months in a week and he is still getting a bottle before bed. He really doesn't drink much of it anymore, so I am not anticipating him having a hard time giving it up. But for now, he holds it and occasionally sucks from it while we read him a couple of books and our life is wonderful! I say do what works for you!

At 17 months, I wouldn't get crazy over. I would just set a plan as to when & how to start weaning.

XOXOXO BOTB Thank you :) The thing is that DD doesn't fall asleep right after or while drinking her bottle. After she is done with her milk she just plays around for few min or watch 15 min of Blue nighttime or we read to her. On very rare occasions if she is reeeaaally tired she'll fall asleep while still holding her baba,LOL. I guess I am going to let her do this little longer and start giving her milk in a cup before bed at around 20 mo or so. We also have to wean her off the pacifier which she only uses at night.
