Milk protein allergy, eliminating dairy...what can/can't I eat??

DD was diagnosed with a milk protein allergy today. I am pumping so I have to eliminate dairy from my diet. After doing research, It seems like there isn't much I can eat. What can I eat? Also, have you found any products that surprise you because they contain dairy? Thanks

My sister is vegan, so she helped me a lot with suggestions. I really liked coconut milk stuff--ice cream and yogurt were both good. Honestly, I found a ton of stuff. It was harder like if we went to someones house for dinner, but if you go to Whole Foods you can find so much dairy free stuff, even mac&"cheese" GL!

Dd has the same thing. If you search my name & dairy all my posts should come up.

Ive been eating dairy free for 3 months. I eat oatmeal for breakfast. Or cereal (check labels) with coconut milk or eggs (once in awhile). For lunch I love knishes and carrots with hummus. Or I'll have an Amy's dairy free burrito with tostitos, and also hummus. Dinner I have salad with grilled chicken, pasta with plain marinara sauce (I add meat to the sauce for protein), chicken cutlets (I use plain Panko breadcrumbs & flavor them with garlic powder & salt). Tyson all natural nuggets when I'm lazy & don't feel like cooking.

Read labels, milk is usually listed bc the FDA requires top allergens be listed. I also avoid anything with soy PROTEIN bc my ped said it is similar to milk protein. I don't avoid soybean oil or soy lecithin though.

I use coconut milk in place of milk. So Delicious brand makes conconut milk coffee creamer which is delish & coconut milk icecream.

I use Earths Best spread in stead of butter. Cornucopia in Sayville carries this as well as rudis bread which is dairy free.

Oreos are milk free(thank god!) so they are my go to cookie!!

I was surprised that some many breads & tomato sauces had milk or cheese. And also chicken soup! Not all so be sure to read labels! You can google to find all the hidden names of milk to watch out for ( whey, casein, etc).

It is def easier than I first thought it would be! Hang in there. When in doubt I google! Lol.
