Mixed Emotions

So most of you know I am having a difficult time grieving for my childhood dog that we just lost in May. My mother is much worse then I am but she is so lonel.

So last night we are looking through petfinder.com and we find this border collie. My mom calls today and asks for the org.s info. She called and got a machine (it said that they will get back to us in the evening). So we may be driving to NJ to get this dog on sat.

Now here are the emotions I am having

Happy-My mom will not be lonely and I love dogs. I can visit the dog any time I like.

Excited- I love dogs!!

Sad- I miss my sadie. Will she be angry in heaven if we get another dog. (she was always jealous when my aunts dog used to try to get attention from me)

Jealous- I love dogs so much and I want one so bad!! We need to get a house first! Everyone I know is getting a dog and I am so green with envy!

Thanks for letting me vent again!!

I don't think she'll be mad. I do have one word of advice, I don't know how much experience you have with border collies but they are a high energy dog and need quite a bit of exercise.

Yes we know the dog is high energy. SO was our last dog. We have done a lot of research, we wouldn't just jump into a breed with out knowing the specifics!

Re: Mixed Emotions

Hopefully you will get a house soon and then you can have your own dog!

I don't think Sadie will be jealous- maybe she is so happy in heaven there is no room for jealousy. If anything, she will be glad that you will be comforted with another dog to love. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Mixed Emotions

I am so sorry you are having such a tough time. Losing a beloved pet is just awful.

Likely, Sadie is having too much fun at the Rainbow Bridge to be jealous of any new dogs in your life.

Good luck to you, and feel better knowing you guys are doing something wonderful by taking in a rescue.

I am a firm believer that your pup showed you the way to a new one so that your family would not be without the unconditional love of a pet.

I am sure that when the time is right, Sadie will once again help you find a new furry friend!
